What does boiler compound look like?

Google has sort of explained what it is; "A chemical added to water in a boiler to prevent corrosion, foaming, or the formation of boiler scale. "

But what does it look like? Can it come as a white powder? If you can post a picture even better.

liquid based, not powder, the additives vary, but have functions of, silencing, corrosion protection, scale protection, fungal contamination protection
some are additives, in that they stay in, others are for flushing only
