160GB - size
5400rpm = rotations per minute the disc does (the higher the #, the better)
sata = type of connection, you can also get IDE
raid1 = has raid technology, used mostly by huge pc's and servers with more than one hard drive

it is one hard drive

when i put in the service tag it says

HARD DRIVE : 320GB SERIAL ATA (5.400RPM)
#7
if it is RAID1, then it has more than one hard drive inside the computer. But will only show as one hard drive in Windows. Most likely there are 2 hard drives

its on the dell outlet

when you look at system identifier it says

Hard Disk Drive: Hard Drive 160GB (5400rpm)
160GB 5400 RPM SATA RAID 1

when you look at service tag it says

HARD DRIVE : 320GB SERIAL ATA (5.400RPM)

and when you ask sassie she says errrrrrr-errrrrrrrrrrrr
#12
RAID 0 or RAID 1 doesn't necessarily mean there are two drives, while to function as part of a RAID setup you do need two drives, often drive controllers let you configure a single disk RAID 0 or RAID 1 array.

That doesn't make much sense, a RAID 0 setup with 2x160GB drives would give you 320GB total however a RAID 1 setup with 2x160GB drives is just 160GB total.

I assume this is a laptop, which model is it?

That model does support two hard drives, based on the information you've given I'd guess it's two 160GB drives but that is just a guess.

me thinks i best go for just the one - lol dont wanna buy think im getting 320 then to only get 160
#17
From what I recall this model was sold with a pair of 160GB drives within the last couple of months but I can't say for sure without seeing any of the specifications.

if it is a german order, do they redo the software before release?
#20
I'm not sure, I've not bought an Outlet machine which has originally shown with a foreign layout.

Does it say it has a UK keyboard? Might be best to ask them directly but you wouldn't want to end up with a German keyboard layout... :giggle:

no it says

KEYBOARD : INTERNAL GERMAN QWERTZ KEYBOA
1 OPERATING SYSTEM : GERMAN GENUINE WINDOW
1 DEUTSCHES MICROSOFT WORKS 9.0 (TEXTVERAR
#23
Oh dear, I'd avoid (see above - thats a qwertz keyboard layout (and english keyboard is a 'qwerty' based on the top line of characters!)

Also the OS and other software will all be in German (not even sure English would be available as an option).

the identifier says Keyboard Internal UK English Qwerty but when you go into service tag it says german

Weird - not sure I'd risk it, certainly I'd try and contact them first. I guess you would be able to return it if it is in German as its incorrectly labelled on one of the pages - make sure you take screenshots just in case if you go that route. But personally I reckon I'd not take the chance (its a nightmare typing of foreign keyboard layouts, particularly if you need the £ pound sign!)

all outlet machines are in English. regardless what the tag info says.

yes. all software included is English.

No worries then - just seems a bit daft of Dell leaving misleading service pack info there... :)

Q Can I buy Dell Outlet system if I live outside of the UK?
A No - not currently. You must live in the UK, have a UK delivery address and a UK Credit Card when purchasing with Dell Outlet Online.
