We are looking at having out living room walls striped and plastered, Along with new skirting boards and wood flooring. But we are stuck with a ugly fire.
We have an old original Baxa I think back boiler, We haven't the funds yet for a new combi boiler so we are just wondering if there are any fire fronts which look more modern and tidy that can go onto the back boiler.
Also can anyone give a rough estimate of how much Plastering wouldd be for a room of aorund 22 sq metre? And How much roughly it would cost for flooring laid and new skrting?
Thanks in advance. Hoping to get a couple of men round to quote soon. But just after a rough idea.

For us we are waiting until the boiler dies and then will replace when a combi boiler goes in. About £3,000 we were quoted so hope it's not too soon. Maybe the fire will be back in fashion by then
I'll show you mine if you show me yours
They appear to have gone up, £1200 here plumbtraders.co.uk/pro…me/
These types of fireplaces?
We know at 1 point we will need to update, but don't really want to do it and are running this one to the ground like you.
£800 though oO where did you find them?
Mine
Its sad when my 85 yr old grandparents have a nicer looking fire than me
I would be happy to even exchange mine to look a bit more nicer than yours
That one linked seems to put across that it replaces the back boiler? maybe im reading it wrong as these kids are frying my brain at the moment. I will have a good proper look once they are in bed
Good thinking. Its not used as we have central heating. Will look at what we can do to cover it.
Mumbo thats lovely. Would look lovely in a room with the old beams.
its around 22years old i think....and there was little choice then!
I would fit a cover or something...
I was thinking if I took the front off the fire then I radiator cover should fit the space. We have a marble base which would look nice with a wooden cover ontop. Will have to look into it.
oooh another idea! daughter bought an ikea cabinet with bookshelves above..i think leksvik but im sure there are more...then we left the back of the bottom bit off and the shelf and sealed the doors shut from inside so kids couldnt get in...the attach to wall. It looked fab!
Ooh a great Idea. I will have a look on the Ikea website as im off to Cardiff on Sunday. We would also need to seal the door shut as our 3 yr old would be all over the boiler and leads inside there Thanks for another good idea
it was like this without glass..the older model i guess...it was very simple to adjust-just leave the shelf out and the back off the bottom section.

When we bought this house first thing we did was replace everything, new boiler-no Fire, thank goodness!!
With the old house and new fire, fire didn't look good but we took out the hearth and put in new back panel and mantelpiece. Anything to make it look a bit better!
I was also going to take off front part and put radiator cover however it wasn't recommended by gas guy.
we moved into a new house... so disappointed that we had a baxi back boiler with fire on front.. BG were going to charge a draw dropping 4k. so we have stuck with it, BUT have put a nice fancy radiator cover in front. it looks great!! saved a fortune. Gas guy didn't say a thing when they came out to do the quote for new boiler, as long as its got plenty of ventilation its good.
still looking at getting a new boiler but not in as much of a rush now we cant see it.:-)
That included new combi and 8 new radiators. Up from 4 in whole house.
Something to chew on.
