What fire front can I get to go on an old Back boiler? ALSO need a Interior decorators quote

We are looking at having out living room walls striped and plastered, Along with new skirting boards and wood flooring. But we are stuck with a ugly fire.

We have an old original Baxa I think back boiler, We haven't the funds yet for a new combi boiler so we are just wondering if there are any fire fronts which look more modern and tidy that can go onto the back boiler.

Also can anyone give a rough estimate of how much Plastering wouldd be for a room of aorund 22 sq metre? And How much roughly it would cost for flooring laid and new skrting?

Thanks in advance. Hoping to get a couple of men round to quote soon. But just after a rough idea.

Good luck with the fire, we also have a back boiler and a very early 90s fire which is gopping. Looked at replacing it and the only one we could find was about £800. As back boilers haven't been used for a while it's a very specialist market.

For us we are waiting until the boiler dies and then will replace when a combi boiler goes in. About £3,000 we were quoted so hope it's not too soon. Maybe the fire will be back in fashion by then

I'll show you mine if you show me yours

I was thinking if I took the front off the fire then I radiator cover should fit the space. We have a marble base which would look nice with a wooden cover ontop. Will have to look into it.

Ooh a great Idea. I will have a look on the Ikea website as im off to Cardiff on Sunday. We would also need to seal the door shut as our 3 yr old would be all over the boiler and leads inside there Thanks for another good idea

    http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40033862/

it was like this without glass..the older model i guess...it was very simple to adjust-just leave the shelf out and the back off the bottom section.

You all have really nice fires compared to ours! We try to get pics of our daughter away from that wall - it's that hideous! Radiator covers tend to be a bit old fashioned too but I like the idea so I will have a look for a trendy ish one! We also like having the warmth tho so something we can move would be good!

Does anyone know how to take the Baxi fire off so we can access the boiler please- plumber is too young to know how to do it. We had the controls changed and the heating stopped, a week later the water stopped heating after the gas had been turned off and on. Wondering if there is trapped air or if there is pressure valve which needs releasing. Was working perfectly until the controls were changed

Our last house had a hideous back boiler,we couldn't afford to replace the central heating at the time so had to buy a new fire. Cheapest one I could find at the time was £380 and it was one with the 3 white rectangle white panels(you probably know what I mean) anyway it had to do at the time

When we bought this house first thing we did was replace everything, new boiler-no Fire, thank goodness!!

With the old house and new fire, fire didn't look good but we took out the hearth and put in new back panel and mantelpiece. Anything to make it look a bit better!

I was also going to take off front part and put radiator cover however it wasn't recommended by gas guy.

    Hi,
we moved into a new house... so disappointed that we had a baxi back boiler with fire on front.. BG were going to charge a draw dropping 4k. so we have stuck with it, BUT have put a nice fancy radiator cover in front. it looks great!! saved a fortune. Gas guy didn't say a thing when they came out to do the quote for new boiler, as long as its got plenty of ventilation its good.
still looking at getting a new boiler but not in as much of a rush now we cant see it.:-)

There are companies out there that will do you a finance deal on a new heating system. Woman next door but one was telling me about hers other day. About 3 grand at 100p/m.

That included new combi and 8 new radiators. Up from 4 in whole house.

    Something to chew on.
