Comet are doing 20% off on top of 50% on shavers. Figured I'd snap me up a Braun 390cc. £74.99 on Amazon, they were doing it for £54 (after 20% discount on the £67.99). Returned a while later and added another to basket by mistake and site went nuts. Made BOTH shavers £57.66 saying something about dishwasher discount??? I've ordered them for collect @ store but no idea if they'll honour it? No way they'll charge me instore price (84.99) if not, will they?

Am I right in thinking that they can't charge the full price unless they ask you? It is just I am out of the country at the moment so they can't call me, don't want to be charged the £79 something

Awaits everyone crying they have had their wages gobbled up by Comet reserving loads of money X)

I don;t mind the 1.66 being put on hold but the £80 would be annoying but not a problem either, worth the punt

Be warned anyone shopping with comet. Their website is screwed. Twice this month we had genuine orders "lost" on their system and screwed up.

They know their website is screwed. But still continue to ringfence funny amounts on order which you then have to wait to drop off.

Thanks for the heads up! I can probably live with £1.66 being reserved for a week or two. :)
#17
Got the email confirmation (Which i know means nothing) ordered for Delivery tomorrow .

Will wait and see. - If Comet ring fence the full amount, no problem.. its on my CC.

Last week I screamed blue murder to get a 1700 pre auth dropped off my bank account as it was a screw up. Comet couldn't care less about their screw ups of pre auths as they haven't taken the money, but you can't get at it.

Comet pre auth WTF they like and do nothing if its wrong or if there is an error. As they haven't physically taken your money only ringfenced it for a week. I spent thurs and fri last week scrapping with the bank to get 1700. Dropped. The other pre auth was 160 which the bank dropped without question.

Hth aysayer

How much was your actual order? Did you have to input your secure code? where it states the actual amount you authorise them to take? x

Just to clarify............it's not the amount you are spending they are reserving...it's random amounts looking at Tinkerbell's post.

But how can they do that? Thought the secure bit was also to check the amount and confirm only that amount is to be taken? Ive paid by credit card so i wont be able to see what has been pre authourised! But there aint enough credit left on it for them to pre auth £1700 even if they attempt to :o)

No you have all missed my point. I had an amount pre authed which had nothing to do with my order on one of those incidents they "lost" and had no record of.

Hopefully you'll just get cancellations and they'll only ring fence what you are expecting. But this is obviously a glitch and all I got in a way of an explanation for my frozen funds was, websites bust don't know what has happened, we havent actually taken the money.

Ah rite so you placed a genuine order for say £20 it got lost, and they wierdly preauthorised £1700 and £160 to come out, when neither of those was anything to do with your original order, did they also preauthorise your original order amount? or was the £160 your original? x

I know what you mean tink, you never know our orders may go through haha ( probably not though!) I was only wondering if they could charge you the full ammount without your authorisation? or will they just cancel the order if they can't get through by phone?
[helper]#27
I cant check until the credit card statement comes, :o(

I too would like to know this, but im 99% sure they cant just take the actual full price, without your authorisation, i would of thought they would have to ask you and if you decline they would cancel the order in question :o)

I am not talking about TAKING the money they pre auth it don't take it. So the funds stay frozen for a week if you have a crap bank. Comet couldn't give a damn as they haven't TAKEN the money, just frozen it so they shift the blame on to the banks.

Just keep an eye is all I am saying I have had a nightmare with comet and 2 transactions this month all to do with their glitchy website. But gtg to school. Hopefully the orders go through fine, pre auth is only really an issue if it's a debit card and you need those funds back. I did to go and buy a tv at JL X)

I understand that they dont take it but all im saying is, ive paid by credit card, so i wont see if it is pretending (as i call it) to be taken, and say for example i only had 200 credit limit left, and they "pretended" to take £1700 would they be able to "pretend" to do this, or would it just not let them "pretend" as im now wondering if they still can even though there not gonna take it, whether i will get charged for them "pretending" when there arent enough funds there to "pretend"

HaHa i understand what i mean not sure others will haha x

I did a reserve and collect...

I dunno whether thats even gonna work tho, even if they didnt notice that my £140 order should come to £290 odd.. Wont the items just scan as normal?

It says in the terms and conditions instore have different terms

How so?

See whenever i done a reserve and collect in currys, they just take my number and then scan the item anyway..

I'd imagine with this, they'll just have a list of what i ordered and scanned the items which will mean it'll come out as full price? Anyone know how comet do it?

Reason i didnt bother with online checkout was theres no way they wouldn't of noticed this at some point this morning and cancelled all the orders hehe

That happened a lot when the up to 50% off voucher promo was on last year, the site was so busy that the system couldn't cope resulting in errors and orders going missing. However, those that tracked paid out cashback! :D

I felt so dodgy when i went in, just thought i'd give it a try.. Was certain somebody would just go "This isn't right, i'm ringing head office...", or a manager would just deny it.. As i was carting it all out to the car, i was smiling from ear to ear.
