I have been looking to sell a tomtom, so have done a little search only to find they have changed the way people search for things. The search result favours the top rated seller so the other auctions take a back seat, this will lead to nothing but lower selling prices and snipers taking the michael.

After having a little look around it is not happening on all the searches, look @ this.

i only ever use ebay for very low value stuff (last few items have been ear plugs for example) or stuff that is a bit unique, yet still very low value.

if i actually have to sell something i do it via the local ad-mag.

why dont you just sort by ending soonest instead or low to high?

Yes I can do this, but thats not really the point, the average audience to buy my items wont be doing this. They will be searching in the top bar and viewing the results. Losing people like us money.

I always sort by ending soonest but there's no way to keep your preference.

tomtoms are common as muck, you'd get the same price if not more selling it locally with no fees, why do people keep falling for thinking ebay is the best place to sell something common, ebay should be seen as a last resort not the first port of call, unless you have something rare or with limited appeal

I agree, but it is also the easiest way to sell I think? - I hate having people come to my house or going to them to sell them something, worse thing in my opinion cos they can always have a come back then.

far easier than having to package an item and get to and queue at a post office

its been like that for over a year now? and yes it is very annoying, an auction site should imo, be sorting in order of "ending soonest" not who the best seller is.

my gripe, I know what I want to search for and use specific words, but ebay ignore that and give you what they think you want. example search for "pink dress" and you get "Burlesque corset & tutu set"???? Now wtf, that neither has "pink" or "dress" in the title, ok its red-but its not effing pink is it, thats what I wanted, and its not a dress either.

I still think the ebay search is better than the search here!!!

yeah, you are right. How crap is that! Always used to search just the words you typed in.

A complete mess now.

Still, I agree; far better than hukd search

What bugs me is that after setting a number of parameters for a search if I then change the actual search word(s) it resets the other parameters; it didn’t used to do that.

The search result favours the top rated seller so the other auctions take a back seat

The default search mode seems to be ‘Best Match’ which is not strictly by Top Rated Seller.
There is no one default search mode that will please everyone as it depends whether you are looking for auctions or BIN sales. So I guess they’ve gone for a compromise.

I think it only does that when there is no exact match for your search.

I just tried searching on ‘pink dress’ and it came back with 108,431 results.
I tried ‘pink AND dress’ and it came back with 2,956 results and the first result was for a black dress from China!
Just glad I’m not buying dresses. :)

i must admit that my items havnt been selling aswell in the last couple of months, im a good ebayer, but only 200ish feedback so even if my item ends in the next minute, people that dont change the order preference (eg my dad wouldnt know how to) dont see my item unless they scroll through loads of pages.

on a side note theyve also messed up google search, if you search 1 2 3 it shows results for 1 2 OR 2 3 and not always 1 2 3
which is useless.
