What I think about my new xbox...

Right, so got a new xbox 360 on a Zavvi deal on Sat, just because I want to play Rez HD. So, with all the PS3 v xbox 360 debates on here, I thought i'd pass on my thoughts.

Xbox 360

Bad points:
The xbox is much noisier than the PS3. In fact, I sold my 60gb PS3 before xmas as the fan noise was really annoying me- but the 360 fan is stupidly loud.
The menu system on the 360 isn't as logical as the PS3 setup- many issues were far from easy to resolve- setting up vibration, playing xvids, etc.
The power brick is stupidly big, and gets really warm.
OMG, no wifi? why not- the DS and PSP have wifi!

Good points:
The sound is much better than a PS3- games like Burnout sound amazing through my HDTV, less so on the PS3.
Games are really cheap as they've been around longer. I picked up Burnout Revenge and THPS American Wasteland for £22 which is great value.
Looks great through the HDMI port, and the Jeff Minter visualisation thingy for music is brilliant.

PS3

Bad Points:
Games are still really expensive, even second hand.
The release schedule for games seems really slow- one of the reasons I sold my PS3, will def be getting one again when Midnight Club LA comes out though.
Motorstorm- still the best game i've ever played, but the delay for loading up new vehicles is insane.

Good points:
Wifi included out of the box.
Some amazing games, even from the launch titles.
Blu Ray looks awesome.
We still get a bad deal compared to other PS3 sales area.

In conclusion, i'm really happy with the 360, but the PS3 still has the edge for me. Having said that, at less than £200 for a 360 premium with HDMI, it's a great second console now, with cheap second hand games that look and play fantastically.

I agree with you on these points here. With the xbox price drop, even ps3 hardcore fans will be tempted to get it as the games are much cheaper. and its something to play while waiting on mgs4 :)

tottally agreeee

I agree with everything you said about the 360 but wireless is the most annoying it takes the pi$$. Although i like the Menu alot.

A point to add to the Ps3 side is that all games are region free meaning we can take advantage of the cheaper countries :p

V good point titchimp- brought back a load of £15 games from the US in Oct that are still £30ish in cex here.

Nice balanced view.

I have to say the Wi-Fi bit is crazy and I personally think that as great as Live is it should be a little cheaper £20 a year?

I stand by for now the game catalogue and prices make the 360 a very very attractive proposition, whereas the PS3 seems (I dont have one) to be a more all rounder

Nice post. Good to get both sides of the story. Just curious to those who like driving games, what's the PS3's controller like? I love the triggers on the xbox controllers as they allow for much better control of acceleration/braking, so was always put off the PS2 Dualshocks as they it didn't have them. So I just wondered what the triggers on the PS3 controller were like to use?

R2 + L2 can be a pain in the ****, mainly because if your hands get clammy your fingers will slide off because of the way they're shaped.

The ps3 driving triggers and 360 driving triggers are pretty much the same. Only real difference to me is the 360 vibration has been pretty much unnoticable so far- but without trying a PS3 dualshock pad, I can't say if it's better or not. Rez HD with two vibration pads is nowhere near the PS2 dualshock and trance vibrator though.

Theres the trigger enhancers. I got mine with the playstation magazine, they were really good but i lost one of them

Thanks for the feedback on my question, much appreciated! :) (Can't leave rep for either of you right now, but if I could, I would!)

any ideas on sites where i can buy some good region free ps3 titles??? i just bought one and also have the 360 and i think they are both 2 balanced consoles

i have a 360.
Ps3's are good. But just too damn expensive!
I got my 360 for £170 last year, with games.
I'm looking at £300 for a ps3 and games, and seeing as the catalogue of games isn't spectacularly different from the 360 I can' justify spending that amount of money on a console.
Thats the main negative point for the PS3 and most of my friends feel the same

I thought it was only me who thought Motorstorm vehicle load times were stupid - nobody seems to mention it in reviews or experiences?!

For me the PS3 pad is better designed for racing, platform and football games where as the 360 pad is better for FPS's. The 360 pad reminds me of a more ergonomic Dreamcast pad which I always found myself gripping really tightly during racing games for some unknown reason!

I prefer the XMB on the PS3.

One of the things about the 360 that I dont like is the lime green and the faceplate's I find gimmicky.

The 360 I think is a traditional console - alot of things are an added 'extra' first it was wireless pads, now finally as standard, wi-fi added extra, 120GB hard drive (stupid price), memory cards. All of which the PS3 has - but us gamers arent used to getting it "all-in" - Microsoft always points out accessories sell most on 360 - yes because they come as standard with the PS3! BUT I think in a way thats the PS3 problem its all in the box, I dont need wifi, extra USB etc. It gives things that arent needed and in that respect the PS3 is overkill so people cannot justify spending £300 on features that "I might need in 6 months".

Overall both are great consoles and to be able to afford both is good, also the "mod" aspect of owning a 360 I think is a big part of sales.

i wonder if the ps3 can be modded like the ps2

Not many people have Blu Ray burners...
