This may or may not be worth a try.

Apple sets the prices, so you won't find much difference wherever you buy it from, as the resellers don't make much margin on them. The best bet if you don't want to go the refurb route is to look for printer deals or to see if you can qualify for educational discounts.

You can check these online retailers in addition to the likes of PC World/Currys etc:

www.cancomuk.com
www.jigsaw24.com
www.macwarehouse.co.uk
www.krcs.co.uk

or check this link and enter your postcode to find local resellers. You can sometimes get a better deal when a product update is due, if you don't mind not having the latest model as stores like John Lewis discount older models to make way for the new one.

ur right iv found argos to be one of the cheapest which is weird as argos is usally more expensive for everything else but i think im gonna wait till they release macs with better processors i dont mind paying £1000 for a macbook but the core 2 duo is getting old now i dont wanna pay £1000 then they go and release a i5 or i7 a few months later

Apple is one of the best companies around that can regulate its prices so well, the cheapest you can get it is maybe £100 cheaper at a stretch.

Just get a dell mini 10v for 200 quid and hackintosh it, mac for about 250 quid :thumbsup:

That sounds interesting, will that work on anything else? Like say an Acer Aspire 3680?.........

this is a step by step guide

"Hackintosh"ing is where you take a non apple product and get it to run OS X by hacking it a bit.

The reason I say the dell mini 10v is because the 10v has fully working components perfect for OS X, the dell mini 10, however, has an incompatible graphics card and will not function properly. Any other laptops or desktops might have different parts so you would never be fully sure that the computer has the right components to run it. the 10v has the right components :thumbsup:

If you are thinking about it, go on http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/ They know what they are talking about :)

Or the gizmodo site posted is the best guide I've seen for it.

Oh yeah, quick side note, Apple dont like it, and neither do Dell, so if it screws up, there's no warranty.

Yeah, found that, would quite like to do it on my current laptop though, that way it's even cheaper!!

After a bit of googling i found

Acer Aspire 3680-2022

* method: iATKoS 4i (10.5.4)
* video: GMA950, works no hacking
* wifi: Atheros 5006X, works no hacking needed
* sound: Azalia Audio, no hacking again
* ethernet: Marvel Yukon, works

But not quite sure what any of that means!

its alright doing it on a dell 10v cuz they are only 200 but i would still rather get a macbook pro

is there a list for which laptop would run osx mac ?im trying to see if i could do it on my vaio fw21l

There might be information on that components are compatible with it on one of the sites linked from http://www.osx86project.org/

I know insanelymac were trying to build a massive comprehesive list of all components available, wirth checking your components with CPU-Z and having a gander :thumbsup:
