The Color of Magic is Terry Pratchett's maiden voyage through the now-legendary land of Discworld. This is where it all begins--with the tourist Twoflower and his wizard guide, Rincewind.

Hi there - I read a lot of the Discworld stuff a few years ago and used this guide as help

http://www.lspace.org/books/reading-order-guides/the-discworld-reading-order-guide-1-5.jpg

It's brilliant, tells you each of the starter books for each series and the correct order to read them in.

I read them all over the course of about 18 months, starting about 2 years ago. Time well spent.

the colour of magic is indeed the first book however its not the best introduction for the discworld IMO
Try sourcery or Mort.
