What is the point of reps?

I know that the site got rid of negative reps but what is the point now. You can't see how many points someone had got only the little circles. It doesn't take long to get a full set of those. They don't count towards something. I know that on other forums that show the rep power and have negative reps it is useful - the higher the rep power, the better response you are going to get. No one can see it on this site though. What is the point?

I was only asking what the point is. Next time I want to post anything I will ask you then. Thanks for your contribution. :)

Honestly not much, been here for a while but never inclined to collect rep, just be nice and hopefully helpful. It is just circles, you get to know the *cool* people quickly like starsparkle2311.

tbh what was the point in posting saying about the rep threads. It is the internet. No one is going to listen to you. Just saying

It's a rep thread. The point was I posted about rep threads... isn't that the point of a forum. I wasn't being nasty to you but you seem to have taken it that way. I was only stating an opinion.

There is a point to it. The more rep you have, the more the "heat" of a deal is affected when you vote on it. So, someone with a lot of rep voting a deal hot would increase it by 10 whereas someone with low rep would increase it by one. The idea is that they're a trusted member of the website if they have more rep so their opinion should count for more (as it does with the heat of a deal).

I thought that depended on the deals submitted by you. So if I submitteda deal that got really hot my voting power will be higher.

Not true, you can have zero rep but still have 9 degrees voting power.

It is 9 and not 10 when you hit maximum. And that is not just maximum rep, as posting of deals is also taken into account.
There is an idea of "trusted members" but that doesn't really count for anything as there are so many on here that have max rep and have never given out any advice at all, helpful or otherwise.
I have maximum rep on here but only half of it has been given out for offering help. The other half has been given for being funny, stupid, serious, sad or just being in the right place at the right time.
Does that mean I'm a trusted member on here? Hell no, I could still vote anything I don't personally like as cold ( I don't, but there are plenty who do )
I still vote the way I did when I had the one little disk. I like to think I vote fairly, but as I said, I have done that with one little disk and I still do with a full complement.
There are some people on here who will vote cold just for the fun of it. Eventually they get caught and are warned, but it doesn't happen often enough. But just 'cos they have all the disks lit up, doesn't mean they are a trusted member, and their vote is important, 'cos it don't always work out like that.
You will still get idiots who vote a cracking deal in Scotland, cold, 'cos they live in Cornwall and can't make use of it.
Also, you get people voting freebies cold. If it is truly free, then I have never understood why anyone could vote it cold.
I have seen free nappies or free mammograms posted, and people will still vote them cold, why?
I could never vote them cold, even though I personally have no use for them.

Anyway, if you have got this far........rant over.
