Going to Skegness tomorrow for a long weekend in a caravan at Robin Hood. (We were meant to be Butlins but some silly person changed the number when I was booking through Sun Holidays) Whats to do in Skegness? Has anyone been recently?? Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks II(*_*)II xx

I would recommend you head to the Hildreds shopping centre as they have had discount voucher booklets recently in little stands through the mall. They offer discounts on butlins, natureland, animal farms etc etc. could save you some pennies.

Natureland is a lovely activity, they rescue washed up seals, have a petting zoo, butterfly room, reptile house etc.
Lots of crazy golf pitches, the pier is good for arcades and views. Our funfair has a system where you buy a wristband and ride as many rides as you like all day. Alternatively we have bigger rides at Fantasty Island, Ingoldmells but they cost about £4-£5 per ride.

Plenty of car boots on-if you're into that sort of thing pick up the Target newspaper-will tell you when and where they are.

Oh and the Skegness Theatre-the embassy centre have got a Meccano Exhibition this weekend, all weekend. A good little visit I expect.

Definately check out natureland seal sanctuary, won't be too many seal pups this time of year but its a nice way to pass some time and is well run. Small aquarium bit there too.

There isn't a zoo nearby, but on the way to Skegness is a place called Hardy's Animal Farm which was always popular with me as a child.

Lovely little town is Mablethorpe, opposite way to skegness from robin hood. Has lots of little charity shops, loads of seaside shops for buckets and spades and ice creams. They have plenty of old amusement arcades too to keep kids busy and not lose too much money, especially the one on the corner as you walk down the main road to the beach, it's the corner on the left before you cross to the beach access. Old fashioned machines where you don't lose any money.

They've just saved one this week, was in our paper, is ever such a cutie! As you say though, not pup season yet so not many there I don't think.

If you come to Skegness, you want tony's Chippy right beside the Clock Tower, or 'Salts' on Roman Bank-the main road into Skeg from Robin Hood.

In Mablethorpe theres a lovely one about half way down the main road to the beach on the right.

Ingoldmells...no idea!

I cant believe that I thought we had Butlins when we hadn't. I picked the number out of the sun holiday book for 2009, booked it and then it ended up they had changed it half way through the year! Apparently they can change the numbers when they feel like it :(

Ah ok, that would be fantastic for your kids though wouldn't it, especially if they watched the programme-would feel like they'd seen a real celebrity at that age.

Another thing is-Butlins has gone down in price-is only £8 for adults at the moment for the day and £6.50 for kids so you could always go for the day, enjoy the swimming pools, rides, shows etc and then go and watch the entertainment in the evening before going home?
Plus-those discount booklets I said about have reduced entry to Butlins too.

I haven't been since I was about 12 and school took us as a treat. However I've heard its very much a chav place to visit at the moment, with lots of youths, drinking, swearing and fights. Some of the better rides you have to pay for, the chalets aren't always clean and the staff can be rude. However-you only ever hear bad things about a place-people rarely take the time to comment positively anymore so thats a very biased group of opinions I've had.

Skegness is a dump, i should know ive lived there practically all my life, as the previous poster has said, nothing ever changes here... Anyone that hasnt been to skegness for some time will notice that we have lost most of our "main attractions" due to "accidental fires" which have gutted the seafront its being rebuilt at the moment but it looks so ugly. Its a shame because skegness used to be a nice place to visit but our town is so corrupt that the council never agrees to anything that changes skegness for the better. I.e Casino, waterparks etc.

Btw regarding chip shops i would NEVER recommend going to Salts, head down a road called seaview road and you will find Seaview Fisheries, I used to work there before moving to university, we were skegness number one, no idea if we still are lol.

By main attractions do you mean the clubs which only ever attracted old pervy men and Whiskys which only employs stuck up cows?

I completely agree with your comment about the council-they're all so finiancially involved with businesses here that noone else is allowed the chance to compete. the cinema is rubbish and 3 weeks behind anything else, no roller/ice skating and certainly no casinos-although I don't mind that too much!!
Have you seen the new build by the Clock tower? It's a massive eyesore!!

Sea view is by far the best, but less easy to find and Salts is perfectly good with their new owners. I had a bag only the other week and was very pleasantly surprised. However my parents brought home orders from Sea View and they got everything wrong! None of us got what we actually wanted!

lol, loving the Skegness depreciation society in the thread, sounds like my town, tourists flock here year round, WTF for? Nobody knows, but hey keeps peeps in jobs I guess:thumbsup::)

Yes this is exactly what happens here, in the summer the three roads leading into skegness are chocka block so you cant move for hours. Using a car during the summer is just pointless, and shopping in town becomes a huge task. Bloody Tourists :p

Yeah those attractions :p personally i hated them but from a holiday makers pint of view they were atractions lol.

Yes ive seen the new build it is disgusting, i cant believe the council turned down the planning for a full glass fronted building, the one being built now looks vulgar

Seaview fisheries - Yeah unfortunatly the deliveries have always let them down (never when i was on the phones) but the chips are to die for... I used to make the mushy peas myself and since leaving ive had no end of refulars coming up to me saying its not as good now ive left lol.

Sorry , you will miss the busy period though which is fortunate for yourself lol

We have a McDonalds on the seafront too, just incase you cant find anything to eat other than fish and chips

Skeggy is one huge chip infested rat hole, the grease from the chip shops oozes from the pavements.

Don't bother going to Ingoldmells, it is twice as bad.

Its huge too, travel towards it from the bowling green side of the parade and the Clock Tower is dwarfed by the size and shape of it, think they've ruined it personally-its far too dominant compared to the rest of the plaza.
Well everything was cook-ups and we all got the wrong sauce-would be ok if we had it in pots as we'd asked but was on our food instead lol. Luckily we got all our meals this time though with none missin

Which uni did you resign yourself to? x

Ahh, you're paying too much attention to the wrong people!

People who live in Skeg dislike it, as we have the tourism pretty much 24/7 all summer and nothing in the winter. Tourists are usually bolshy, ignorant and dowright dumb so we get fed up of them!!

Similarly, the posters who have left completely negative comments don't usually have a good word to say about anything so take it with a pinch of salt. some people just always look for the faults in everything, those people will lead bitter lives and aren't really helping you in your request for information.

Most people who visit for a short time enjoy their stay here, and enjoy the 'cheesy' seaside town tackiness as its what they've come for-something different to the norm, a light hearted trip away. As someone said-it is what you make it.

Theres plenty to do here with some money, and plenty for free too-our beach has just won an award for cleanliness again, so a day on the beach in the heatwave could be good for very little money.

PS, had PMed you back! Hopefully see you this weekend!! x
