If you want a bling ring, then get an iPhone.

But if you want an excellent phone without the hassle and huge range of apps, then Desire is the one to go for.

My iPhone I'm pleased to say will soon be history.

BB 9700 user here, for top notch email and messaging BB without a doubt!

I was using an iphone till a few days ago. Now its the desire. Iphone is great for all the apps but the desire is something else.

Feel like i am holding a beast with the desire.

As a phone, its pants.

The GUI might be goot, but I'm fet up of iTunes, losing music and apps etc 'cos I'm using a different PC. Maybe I'm unusual that I use more than one PC and own a few portable drives!

Cant wait to be shot of it.

Exact same story here :-D

iTunes was biggest load of poo ever, lost music twice whilst doing it's nonesense synching, worst still after buying my desire for £285 (thanks to hotukdeals) couldn't transfer contacts with my google account, instead it lost them :x

Can the Desire sync with Outlook etc?

What is the music player like on it?

Hmmm. Hadnt thought about that!

I'd be surprised if you couldnt sync from outlook to the Desire?

Anyway... here's some nice free apps that apple uses would cream over if they were on the iphone:

Google goggles

I had a look at one today for the first time. So much faster than the iPhone and the GUI looked similar, but better.

The default player looked identical to the ipod tbh. (With the advantage of drag and drop..... no more being handcuffed to that disabilitating pile of poo otherwise known as itunes.)

Is the system like iTunes or do you just copy tracks from Cd straight onto the phone?

No need to jailbreak. The phone isnt crippled.

The apps I posted above (what did you think of those BTW?) was just through a quick google search. As Ive said, I dont own one yet, but intend to shortly. The only saving grace... there will always be a mug out there to buy my 16GB iphone.

you can use doubletwist which is a itunes clone but for android works very well have they not offered you a nexus 1 ?

Youve got the Desire have you not?

Opinion now?

no i have a nexus one and now its running froyo android 2.2 as opposed to 2.1 on the desire its stunningly fast

Speed was the thing that impressed me today. The guy in the shop said he'd yet to have one crash in the 2 months he'd owned it.

Thought the article lacked any merit as soon as the 'light sabre' was identified as a mind blowing app.

What? You mean you dont think thats great?
#20
Yeh the Light Sabre isn't what I call a very "mind blowing" App

There could have been a good few more instead of that one I'm sure,

any list of the apps available for the desire?

Yes.... but mostly down to itunes... flashing the firmware (and losing stuff) and generally think the iPhone is pants as a phone.

In fact its not got much going for it!

iPhone, so much so I own 2

Do you not think with the new OS4 things might change with your view? even knowing there is a new iPhone in July being released?

I'm thinking of waiting till July before deciding on keeping the iPhone, getting the new iphone 4G or getting a HTC Desire

No. Ive seen the error of my ways.

Being told I can now multi task doesnt cut it for me Im afraidd!

Compared to the iPhone, I'd take the Desire. Apparently, we'll find out how Jobs plans to stay in the game with iPhone 4G in a couple of weeks (June 7). I've saved up the funds ready for one of those so hopefully, but I can't see myself parting with the Desire as my main phone anytime soon.

Advantages of Desire
1) Phone isn't dying to get into bed with iTunes every night
2) Adobe Flash coming soon
3) Upgradable memory (though to be fair you can't get 32GB MicroSD cards(can you?))
4) Better customisation options - homescreens, massive range of settings, alternatives for almost everything including the dialer, messaging and email
5) "Proper" multitasking
6) Fast, and due to get faster with Froyo
7) More open, easier to develop for and no real need to jailbreak

Disadvantages
1) Inferior audio quality
2) Updates are dependent on HTC. If they decide they don't want to support the phone anymore you're stuck relying on the developer community. Apple are only dropping updates for the 2G now (which is about 3 years old), compared to the Hero for which HTC are dropping support only a year since release.
3) UI isn't as polished as iPhone
4) Not as intuitive to use (a counter-argument to advantage #4)
