I use a few different e-mail addresses. But I don't check them too often and I've had it in the past where Yahoo has got rid of the account as I hadn't checked it within a month or three months or something. Can't find what the actual limit is.

Anyway, does anyone know one you don't have to check to keep it alive or where it's listed as once every three months or something. If I knew Yahoo was three months then I could stay there I guess but I can't find an answer anywhere!

Thanks!

Googlemail.......?

Cheers, just been looking and found this:

Rule 4: This is slightly unrelated but still important - Google will disable your Gmail account permanently if you don’t check your Gmail email for a period of nine months. All the stored messages will be deleted and you Gmail address (user name) may be released for others to grab it.

Anyone confirm if it's true? Once every 9 months sounds perfect!!!

I have to admit, I thought it was longer...... I logged into one of mine a couple of weeks ago after what I thought was about 12 months.

If it's in the T's and C's then yeah. Also if you're a clever sort (and depending on who your other email addresses are with) you can set up GMail to check your other emails for you.

just set the google homepage as a igoogle account (saves in cookies) then your account is forever logged in, and you can see how many messages in your mail account when using google homepage :)

Thinking about this, would that keep my yahoo accounts live? As in I'm checking my account but without going to yahoo?

Also anyone know any app to check a few at a time? Annoying that I have to open and close about 6 windows to check all my addresses as you can't be logged in more than once at a time.

Only works for one account though I assume? I need this for the rare accounts.

and Google will track every search (and more) you ever make and tie it to your account........I know their slogan is "don't be evil", but still I'm not sure I'd want anyone having that sort of detail on my interweb habits. :whistling:

Not sure about Yahoo. They used to allow pop access, not sure if they still do?

Tried that and without really explaining what it was doing it moved half my inbox out of my yahoo account and onto my pc so I could no longer check it from anywhere in the world!

Not going there again!!!

Thanks for all the help guys, brilliant as ever! Will use googlemail and put up with logging in/out. It's not that much hassle after all!

how many accounts do you have ? you could download FF and safari & do the igoogle account on all of them, so each browser will be logged into an account... so you could have 3 accounts set up with easy access

Depending on your email client there should be a "leave messages on the server" option somewhere that'll fix that.

That's a very good point. I think I'll be fine with what I've got now though. Yahoo generally works with about 2-3 logged in on seperate IE windows. And I've got a googlemail one now so that'll cover me.

Rep 4 all!

Yeah, it didn't ask me though, it just started auto downloading when I put the details in. I thought that it would at least wait until I'd had a chance to go to the advanced settings. It had done about 500 messages by the time I got it to stop!

Either way, the thing I need mainly is to be able to check elsewhere and the simplest solution (which is to completely ignore outlook etc).

Googlemail / Gmail is far better than any other webmail I have used.

I now use google for email, documents, calendar (it will even text you reminders for free).

You could always use windows live mail, you can look at Googlemail,Hotmail etc, when you open the program it automatically checks your emails, thats what i use anyway.

Thanks, but effectively the same as outlook which caused me alot of problems! All I was really worried about was losing my accounts because of lack of activity. Googlemail solves that.

As for checking the accounts it could be worthwhile and I will look into it in the future.

Actually on second thoughts you're right, this would make things easier. Anyone know whether checking an account via live mail is the same as checking it via yahoo/google? ie will it keep it alive?

Calender and texts look really good, was going to ask about this sort of thing soon but with it intergrated it makes so much sense to just go with that.

One question about texts, if I set it to send me a text for an all day event does it text me at midnight?

Great news!

Am looking into putting them all in live mail now. Just realised that's what I used before as my main e-mail address is there already.

I assume I can just set up my accounts in there and tick the leave a message button and I only ever need to use web-mail when I'm out then?
#26
Is it possible to set one account up to be automatically checked and the others to check manually, ie one click to check remaining accounts rather than click each one?
#27
Yes leave the message on the server, then you can view them when you are away :)

If you press the sync button at the top you can choose which one to check or check them all

Great.

One problem I've noticed already is that if I send a message from live mail it doesn't appear in my sent box on yahoo mail. I may be looking for a message I've sent and now won't be able to see it when I'm out and about.

Looks like I'll still have to use web-mail to send messages.
#29
Also any way to improve the spam filter? It's put loads of good e-mails in the spam folder which yahoo didn't do. Even ones from my dad!
#30
I never use the web mail only live mail, you may need to play around with the settings
#31
I might just use it to keep my accounts open and use web-mail when I actually need to use it.

Thanks for your help.
