Why are the Nokia N97 phone showing as being sold for thousands of pounds? Obviously they haven't sold for that much but could someone enlighten me please?

uve never seen this before, probably just spam bidders etc

yeh but why go into the trouble of making a new account just to mess up someones auction?
They can mess a whole load of auctions with just 2 new accounts in one night.
If it was the odd one it could be someone messing about but as there are so many, surely there must be a reason? A shady one no doubt.

I take it back. All of the winning bidders are no longer registered with ebay so it probably is people with nothing better to do.
Or, what about the sellers having an emergency account to bid that ridiculous amount to stop it selling for too low a price?
i noticed that when watching a phone i was gonna get as upgrade and sell on. when i did get the new phone to sell. i stated only uk bidders and anyone with less than 5 feedback to contact first before bidding. i had to remove 2 bids that didnt do what id ask coz i was worried they were scammers!

What's this,ghengis?
Nigerian 419 scam

Google it....
What's this,ghengis?

One of the funniest sites on the internet :-D

Yay! I love the idea of taking the wotsit out of a Nigerian scambag!
I actually feel sorry for them, they're only trying to make a living as there is no other means of income for them

I see now but surely the scambags don't expect the seller to think "Ooh, somebody's bid £5000 for my phone, I'd better send it before they realise or change their mind". Or am I missing something?
Actually there is a method to their madness of bidding such high amounts. It's a complicated scam (which I won't go into detail here), but it ensures that they r always the highest bidder on an item (esp. mobile phones). However, the scam is not in the bidding of the item but the actual delivery of it, thus, these guys are not based in some far off country somewhere (vis-a-vis 419) instead, most of them are actually here in the U.K.
If u really want to know more then I can PM u, but believe me its a pretty good scam & one that I NEARLY got caught out on!
a lot of the time it is money laundering ,,,,,,,,
