The story follows a 21st century detective Sam Tyler (Jason OMara) who who finds himself waking up in 1972 after hes run over by a car. The U.S. version of the show was created by David E. Anyone got a spare length of rope and a strong hook?

I love the way the trailer even introduces it as based on the 'INTERNATIONAL HIT SERIES'...i guess international doesn't cover America, so they need their own version.

That is sacrilege :x

The voice over on the trailer is horrible - makes it sound like an american teen-pic

Oh and the Gene Genie is played by the father out of The Commitments

What did you guys think of 'Ashes to Ashes'?

Wasn't that great for me - the girl(alex) is no substitute performance-wise for John Simm, he was just incredible in Life on Mars. Without him even the great Gene Genie's got a leg missing pretty much

It was OK, but more for the Genie and his one-liners, oh and the music was from my teens also.
Will wait & see how series 2 pans out.

I love both Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. I don't usually like this kind of drama, but I think the Gene Genie really did make it happen. It truly is Philip Glenister's show now, rather than John Simm's or Keeley Hawes'.

I wouldn't watch an American version, but it'd be the only way to show it over there. Remember, they have a different 1970s to us, a different stereotype of police and a different sense of humor. If they want LOM, it needs to be their way.

I accept your points, but there is only one Gene Genie - certainly not the Irish one in the new US TV series :w00t:

Hehe. As I say, it's not meant for our audiences.

I'd be angry if the BBC or Channel 4 or whatever bought it back from them and tried to make us watch it here, but as I see it this show isn't intended for us. :)

Always new it would be different but the cheesy voice over makes it sound like a teen comedy.
