The quality of the deals, or the design of the site that serves them?

Quality of content, that's why MSE is so popular despite its nightmare design. However the current problem with HUKD is it's functionality, the poor design is an aside. There's no use having quality deals, if no one can easily access them.

I have to agree, MSE has some great deals. But the design of the site sucks the big one.
Totally uninspiring and not a fun place to be.

Have you guys honestly been to http://www.hotukdeals.com ? No offense and I know a lot of other things have changed but I cannot understand how that is complex. Three tabs - Hot, New and Discussed. Want to see hot deals - click Hot. Want to see New ones - click New. Want to see most recently discussed ones - click Discussed.

Other things may have changed on the back end and it may not look like a forum index anymore but in terms of accessing the deals it is 100x simplified.

Why do you always reply with blinkered vision or put downs?
People are not liking the site change at the end of the day........simple as that. What do you think of the fact the site is down 2,000 users compared to usual? or the fact so many long standing members who contributed a lot have left?
No doubt you'll dismiss this comment or belittle this as well but that will just reinforce what people are saying or thinking about things at the moment.

Syzable we're taking everything on board and working on it.

The way things are done is very different which I think is more of the problem? Can you honestly feedback on whether the Hot, New, Discussed is a straightforward way of scanning for deals when you are in All - Deals?

I appreciate it's being worked on and i have got it working for myself.
The thing that worries me is how many people have left and how the numbers have dropped so dramatically since it's been changed.
I think what may help is a sticky in Feedback with updates on what's happening and acknowledging that things are being noted as things are so spread out at the moment that it may help quell the revolt a little.

Also just to add the sticky should be locked to members to stop all the updates and news being buried. :)

Nothing wrong with the NEW site.
If members take time to explore it instead of moaning.
I am well use to it now after only a couple of days and would not want to take a step BACK to the old style site.
If people / members want to move on then just go dont keep posting with threats to go, no-one is going to beg you to stay.
Plenty new members will fill the places.
Sometimes good to cut out the deadwood and plant fresh again!!

Bye Bye !!

First time comment since new site.

For me, navigation is fine, all from the old site is here, and I can still access it all with no problems, if not easier.

What bugs me, is the colour scheme. Its not very pleasing in the eye, it quite hurts my eyeballs!

I think that if the old colour scheme was implemented, it won't look like the 'massive' change people tend to be thinking.

Hi Syzable - thanks points taken. To be honest we have metrics that we are watching as those are the genuine indicator of success. Right now member joining stats have not changed either way and page view stats are way up. The members online may have been affected by the way we count members and their activity span - I have not looked into it. Also we have passed the peak for christmas online already so visitors will drop steadily in any case until the end of December when January sales etc start.

the fourm seems to have lost its community feel, everything feels to culltered. Ive also noticed less deals beening posted since the new layout., or is it just me :|

although i do like the deals section were you can see the picture instead of clickin on the link, but thats about it

Can't agree with that........it's taken 3 years to get the site where it is. You can't then lose 2000+ people and replace them overnight. You need the regular members to post the deals because 70%+ of the people here are just lurkers and don't contribute.

Also watch the members logged in number Syzable as it's not much different than usual. The last few days it's been within 50-100 of the average.

As you say obviously the site relies on members contributing - remember though the Misc and such forums are the ones most affected. The main deals always used this type of submit process and the front page which is where the majority of visitors came always had this layout.

I'm not saying the design is better or worse than MSE. I'm saying that it couldn't be any worse than MSE LOL
Anyone who moves over to there is cutting their nose to spite their face. For the record, I pretty much agree with what rangermastiffs said. It takes a couple of days to acclimatise, but it can be done. It isn't all doom and gloom. At the end of the day, the deals are what is important. I will say that I do have problems listing the deals in chronologial order, and the vouchers section needs work. It needs to be in A-Z format, by retailer. No mistake about it.

Maybe the 2000+ who are not showing are mostly made up of them 70% lurkers who cant be bothered navigating / learning the new site ?? So no big loss there !!
You are still here, so that says to me you want it to work and are willing to spend your time getting it to work !
So to me this is the kind of member who will make the site a success. I think we will keep all the "useful" members:thumbsup:

I know what your saying Admin & its easy to use but memebrs just prefered the simple all in one deals. Many just didn't like the fact the timing & such a drastic change. And as Sy says you hardly see any of the regulars who's inputs to the site were priceless. The simple setup of the old site was one of the big factors why this site was so popular.I am trying to get use to this new layout & have left feedback where i thought it could improve & help where i knew what i was talking about but the most just didn't bother & left.A good example is my wife she is not that good with comps & instead of trying to learn this new setup she has now been visiting MSE which is poor but she can find her way around after a few clicks.I would really like to know what the regulars think not newcomers.Sy,sadie,jenny,im-rof (sorry if i missed any out)we already know of wheres Saxo,Dino, & the rest.

Admin - personally I would rather see all the deals in an as discussed list - that is by posting time.

If I use the discussed tab to get the format I like, I am missing new deals and so on.

Also maybe it is just a back end thing but last night when using the discussed tab the earlier posring was over 6 hours old, but when I read the post it was only mnutes old.

Also can you fix the default font size in the quote reply box - its tiny

If most members are like me, they leave a brwoser open and keep it there. Logged in but not necessarily using!

As you say obviously the site relies on members contributing - remember though the Misc and such forums are the ones most affected. The main deals always used this type of submit process and the front page which is where the majority of visitors came always had this layout.

I know you had a thread somewhere to report bugs (and not for moaning! Whilst most you probably know about, there are several Ive found that you may not be aware of. I suggested this to Duck previously to include in your sig a link to where to post this feedback. Can you at least post a link to it so I can add afew?

Bugs aside, I think the biggest bugbear is the sites appearance. It does now look like a very old php design, but more importantly the physical look is very dissapointing. A change of colour (specifically removing the huge white background) will go a long way to ease everyones eyes.

Many of the things Im aware have been broken are still not fixed, despite I would have thought easy to impliment. Typing to reply being one of them. Surely thats not too difficult?

BTW - another small thing - the designers have forgot to include the favicon. A real pain with several tabs open to be missing!!! (Source code shows its missing!)

As admin seems to be looking at this thread i'll post probably the most annoying thing I have found. Where is the page selector within each thread in the main list view ie. 1 2 3 4 5? You have to go to the first page even if you have already read it. I like to choose the page I want and go straight to it right off the bat.
