Up until my lovely hubby got me a decent car - I was driving a little Daewoo Matiz !!!! It cost less than a hundred pounds a year full comp lol plus to fill it up was around £30!!!

I have a Suzuki Jimny now and love that - though I now have 6 points for speeding - clean licence for 23years - but got these points within 6 months of getting this :( Have learned my lesson!

A Daewoo Matiz is like a 4 wheel scooter, you could sink the accelerator pedal everywhere you go and never get a speeding ticket. It's no surprise you got some when you went to a more able car if you continued to drive it the same way. You'd have also killed yourself in a Porsche 911 driving the same way, lol.

To OP, why buy a crap new car when you can get something nice second hand for £1000. Otherwise wait for these http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8672464.stm

Why buy some cheap crap when you can buy something cheap but used ?

So for example, £5k could get you a cheap but ok run about.

VW Fox
Would be my choice on a low budget, will save you money in the long run aswell, because VW hold there price well and are extremely well built..

My car costs £60 to fill up. That's because it holds twice as much fuel oO

I agree with the others and would buy a decent used car. £5k-6k gets you a lot of motor these days and the bulk of the depreciation will have passed if it's say 2 years old.

My new car is around that too! That was another pain in having to constantly fill up the Daewoo cause its petrol tank so small!!

I believe Skoda are making an equivalent, and it will probably be build in Czechoslovakia meaning it will be far better built than the VW Fox which is built in Brasil.

Built in Czechoslovakia? I think they've missed the boat. :(
