You can withdraw as much as you wish over the counter, just need ID.

Lol, I walked in and withdrew 5k to pass over to my dad (prefers cash to the bank, old fashioned I guess). It was in another branch, but they gave it to me, not without a wee probe though. "That's a large amount in cash sir, what do you need it for?" - Sweets I replied. Hee haw to do with them. It's not as if i put in 5k in used up bank notes with traces of powder on them for some dodgy dealings.

well actually they have to ask for certain amounts under the money laundering rules.

.

I thought that was a one way process though, fair enough if making a deposit in used notes. I told them sweets and she passed the cash over. So, if asking questions, what's the point when you get an answer like that ?

I'm with Halifax and the most you can withdraw from cash machines in any 24-hour period is £300.

The daily maximum cash withdrawal over the branch counter is £1,200, unless you have pre-ordered a higher amount.

If you wish to withdraw more than £1,200 in cash, you will need to give your branch advance notice and provide ID.
