What's the name of the game where you do have miniature metal figues like goblins and paint them to play with?

I am wondering what the game is that has metal figues (a couple of cms tall) which you paint and then play, I think it's a role play type game?
Not the best description, but anyone know what I'm going on about?
I think it might be war or warcraft or something like that, Google hasn't helped so thought I'd ask here.
Just wondering as I found a bag of the figures and wondering what they actually are!
Thanks.

I don't even know what space crusade is!
I think that it's mainly a male thing, I must admit that to me (female) the figures look a little menacing - not least the one winged evil looking dragon! But then again I have absolutely no imagination, but I am pleased I have the name of them - been bugging me for a while.

Really! I joined the proper army, had no need to play with little metal men.
Space Crusade wasn't actually that bad, remember it had ED-209 thing in it. Was an attempt to mainstream this geeky game.
I also played it on the amiga (digging a hole here)

Is this the ED-209?

If so, it needs its own video game, master chief and Mario has nothing on this beast!!

Space crusade had a figure like him.

Actually the people who said Games Workshop were also right, by the looks of things the plastic figures are warhammer and metal ones are Games Workshop (the GW imprint gave it away).
I also found a 15 year old conker as it has 1995 engraved into it, lol, boys are wierd.

Do you think if I took them to Games Workshop they would buy them off me? Anyone know if they sell secondhand items?
The website was helpful as I am sure now that they are Orcs and Goblins but they ones they sell online look like the plastic ones and most of these are metal so don't all match up.
There is a Games Workshop in town, I might give them a call tomorrow.

I doubt it, the games they seem to play now are like Lord of the Rings, they have huge vast armies all painted up to a very high standard. That is why most of the figures are plastic. The important ones though are still metal (pewter?), but I guess they are like generals and such.

Unless yours are in very mint condition and are professionally painted, I personally wouldn't go anywhere near that nerd emporium lol

You could always try eBay, that would probably be your best bet.

Ah, that explains why a lot of the Goblins were listed under the collector category and not many of them. The ones here say '92 and '93 on them so they're pretty old and would need to be repainted - they are just plain black which isn't in great condition and chipping a little, even though the figures themselves are absolutely fine.
I might give them a ring anyway, see what they say. Thanks for you help.

Lol I am a nerd but find them boring and I know people who at most are Psuedo nerds i.e chubby guys with glasses but popular with attractive girlfriends so how they do it I dont know but they are big fans of Games Workshop and have hundreds of pounds worth of the toys.

I'm a nerd so I'll rise to the bait!

Having worked briefly at the Games Workshop design studio in Nottingham...

GW is games workshop and this is the company that designs the models and owns the shops

Warhammer, Warhammer 40K, LoTR etc are games created or licenced by GW

GW stores wont buy the models but individuals might, your best bet is a classified ad or ebay. I haven't played a GW game bar Space Hulk for about 10 years but I do know that there is always some sort of market for models no matter how old.

Oh, and we don't have white tape round the middle of our glasses.

it's blue.

Games Workshop is easy to find in your local town, follow the smell of BO, If you find yourself in CEX, come out and follow the other scent trail to Games workshop, where the players are so engrossed they forget to wash.

Thank you for the info, I appreciate it. I think I will try on eBay then, in your opinion would I be better putting them together as one lot (there are about 20) or putting them in single auctions?
