Can I advertise my site on here too ?

id say use a cms script, something like drupal or even wordpress with a good skin. If its going to be like an online shop you should try out oscommerce, its a peoper shop script, easy to add products, id say get a script as getting a html site would be good, but it'd take time to edit, reupload etc.
hope this helps

I have a sort of blog, it uses RavenNuke so it is really secure and easy to customise.

You can have a look at it here, I only started it this month so I am still getting into posting stuff every day. Can never find the time lol.

I just post up stuff like really good deals from here related to computers, or reviews of stuff I have bought. News and gossip I have been reading about that seems interesting etc. Pretty basic stuff really, but it is nice to have something I can call my own, if that makes any sense. I have adsense on it, but it makes no money lol, not that I care. It came with the scripts so I thought I would just let it run.

Hmm. Sounds like you're trying to get an idea of how to do it before you know what you want to do... your site is much more likely to be successful if you think of an original idea. :)

I run a football forum and used to have a website which accompanied it (we got bored maintaining the website though). Used a CMS called Joomla which was completely free and a brilliant tool - it uses a module system so you can say for example, pick modules you want to use to build the site. It was also really easy to skin, think I designed and built the whole thing in a couple of days. Though one thing I would say, be prepared to put in A LOT of work to really make adsense worthwhile - particularly on an informational site where you need to offer really good content to maintain high traffic. Of course, you could try and come up with something unique and useful you can offer people, makes it sound so simple :-D

'rubbish but cheap- the dxtreme blog' would be a winner :)

my hobby site is built around youtube videos i've uploaded, i've had well over 200,000 vid views now and a lot of traffic to the site cos I put the url in the top corner of each vid. Starlet is the one to ask about all this though, wait til you see how much work she puts in, but I think it's worth it in terms of cash return :)

really?? i really need to brush up on the web stuff....what sort of vids do you do??? also what format can you upload to that sort of thing? i was thinking of adding youtube vids etc what sort of thing does starlet do...pm me your site so i can have a deeks?

I had a blog a bout 2 years ago, it was very much a niche but i got bored after a month or so, lol.

sent it ya taz :)
youtube will take anything you throw at it, I cut my xvid files to upload and use an adobe freebie editor that came with something to add the url on top. My vids are comedy stuff, so they get posted round the web a lot and I get hits from that on top of google searches etc. I'm always going on one of my boards or forums and seeing somebody has posted something frm my site- funnily enough its never happened here, but we dont really do youtube vids, do we?

What is the cash return billyX, if you don't mind me asking (!) A rough between x and x would be good' and is it mainly from referrals? if so, which are your best performers?

Works out to be about a tenner a week from adsense at the mo, occasionally a bit extra via amazon. It's about a TV prog that hasnt been on for years, so there's no new content to be added, but I add a new episode clip and review every now and again. It just keeps rolling on regardless, the hits stay very constant over the months, with peaks on bank hols etc- people thinking 'there's nothing on the tv nowadays'!
I'm pretty sure that if I did a real analysis of the adsense stats and put in an hour a week or so I could increase the earnings to £30 or £40 a month, as it is i've never done any publicity or really pushed the site, but it has proved to be a really good learning tool for me and the web stuff i'm doing now is directly because of setting up the site. To be honest every time I look at the google ads on the site I wonder why anybody clicks through on them, so little of it seems to be relevant to the types of people who'd be on my site!

I sometimes click on ads on a website if I've just read/watched/played something funny, kind of a thank you for being free...

now that's interesting, I never thought of it like that! the one that's got me thinking recently is when I google play.com I always click on the top result, but of course they pay for that every time its clicked on- so now I go for the second one as I like the company and dont want to cost them extra!

I go for the old mysearchfunds.com, if you set an account up with them then you get around 2-5p per search...although it uses ask.com, which IMO is pretty slow and not as good as google, it's worth looking into if you use search engines alot.
