The fiancee and I finally got our formal mortgage offer through yesterday!
So we got a Home Insurance quote from a company for £192 per year.

So is this a good quote and what do you look for when buying?

Yep I paid that but with contents only so was £60 with accidental claims etc.

Congrats on the house.

Nice! House? I wish...apartment ;) But cheers.

Well £192.15 with accidental cover it was contents insurance only as our buildings insurance is already covered under our service charge. It is SE London thus I expect it to be higher then the national average.

When we got engaged, we had to put the missus engagement ring on the contents insurance and now the wedding ring, which bumped it up by £8 a month !!!

So if the missus has an expensive piece of jewellery then make sure it is listed and covered.

i wouldnt pay £200 for contents. look around,. use confused.com to get some quotes, use a different email address than normal, find the best with cashback, clear cookies and a few days later do it via a cashback site, alot of the crap they shove on you dont even need, bet you got garden and shed cover with that - lol

i always start with the highest payout from quidco, then work my way through confused.com or similar and this way i can find the best deal.
got ours through lloyds,it worked out cheaper to get buildings and content together coz quidco paid out £75

It covers anything under £2k, and anything over £2k has to be declared, luckily her engagement ring is less then that!

That was my initial thoughts, it is a new build apartment, so although it is in London it has a 10 point locking system on the door, two balcony doors, which are only accessible if you want to jump over from the neighbors doors. Furthermore we are on the 6th floor as well, so someone would have to be quite talented to get up there and steal!

Nah I've read over the cover and it doesnt cover that lol! It has £100 excess though is that about right?

And ill plug in to confused and similar tonight to see what i get.

Sounds like a plan when I look at it later. Cheaper to get both? Madness!

forgot to say that mine is contents only because i rent my house and i have 14 years no claims!
#11
Sounds expensive for contents with no item over 2k. What is the total value of contents on that cover?

It is £50k upto value.

Sounds very expensive.

I pay £280 but that is with 100k contents, accidental damage and four items over 2k and 1 item over 5k covered outside of the house..

Mine is with LV. Direct line were also very cheap when I was checking (literally £5 in it) and they don't show up on price comparison sites, so worth checking.

Cheers.

Just done a quickie on confused.com, although lots of the questions dont apply to our place...ie we have no windows, just two double patio doors.
The cheapest that came up was:
Endsleigh at £107 which includes new for old, legal cover and 24hr phoneline, but a £150 excess and no personal belongings cover.

Personal belongings cover in this day and age is a must. Just think about your phones, laptops, expensive clothes etc...

Give Direct Line a call, they are pretty good.

Having no windows (seriously) should make it cheaper as it limits point of entry.

Agreed, laptop was covered anyway it said. But that was it.

The fact we are on the sixth floor should be enough reason to reduce the premium anyway! and the front door has a 10 point locking system on it and a metal frame that goes all the way around the door.

Will give them a ring and see what they say then as well. Cheers.
