Hi, our toaster died a death a couple of weeks ago, (it was a cremation before anyone asks), My other half purchased a new Breville 2-Slice Toaster VTT001 .. reduced to £14.99. It stopped working after 6 days so went back and a replacement given. Now 8 days later the new one has gone up in a puff of smoke so well be taking it back for a refund.

What makes of toaster are you guys and gals using that :
a) Work for longer than a week
b) Actually toasts probably
c) Doesnt cost a fortune

Help appreciated

Do you use it to toast just one slice?

We went through a couple before someone mentioned that you have to cook two slices always otherwise you are effectively cooking the empty side!

We have got a cheap Philips toaster, been going for years, does the job

In my experience you cant beat morphy richards - had our toaster for 6 yrs now and still going strong, cant be bad!

My parents just use the AGA but I think it's a little overkill! :)
What exactly are you toasting to kill them? I reckon you've just been unlucky and the cheapest ASDA or Argos one will be fine...

Thanks for all your replies so far... keep them coming please

We've been toasting bread and hot X buns, somethings 1, mainly 2 slices at a time ... I saw the £6.00 toasters in Asada .

I'll post what we get and how long it lasts

I have used a cheap Asda one before and it was ok. My husband is a real toast addict and we asked for a TEFAL AVANTI as a wedding present. It is absolutely superb and going strong after 2 years (our anniversary is on the 10th). It toasts even large pieces of bread, whereas the cheap toster always had a bit sticking out. If you shop around this can be had for a decent price.

We have a tefal avanti deluxe its **** one side toasts more than the other pop up handle gets stuck etc its for the bin the way to go is a dualit with sandwich cages. Brand new on ebay from £60 will last you a lifetime or wait for some codes to come up for webstores.

we had our tefal avanti for 4 months then it just stopped working, was never happy with it though it use to burn one side & hardly cook the other!

I use the best toaster in the world.............Dualit...........will last longer than you.......easily fixed with cheap spares.........only the element will ever fail perhaps after 10 years and only because you jabbed a knife in it to release an extra thick slice or bun stuck in the slot..............wind up timer.........no pop up to break.....a lever lifts the slices up............but can you afford one?...............not the cheap clone dualit argos sell for £49 but the original Dualit , starts from around £129.................i bought a very old 6 slicer, cream colour,at least 40 years old and just changed two elements and it has worked perfectly for the last 10 years..............i only bought it for spares.........at aboot sale for 3 pounds.......the five working elements were worth £50, and now buy every Dualit i see................

I would recommend the Morphy Richards 4 slice toaster. we have had for over a year and toasts to perfection, even from frozen.

About £24.00 mark.

Hope this helps.

Hi Suze,

We're still looking for a toaster ... what model did you go for?
Several we've looked at don't seem to take very big slices of bread leaving hthe top 1/3 not toasted.

Thanks to all for their posts... not willing to pay £100 for a toaster.

Looks like it was designed by Apple --- a fashon statement! :?

Had a delonghi toaster since christmas 06, fantastic, cannot fault it. I got mine from the missus as a main present, i mean come on! Saying that, turns out this was the best and last present she gave me, you'd think i'd be upset but not with the way this baby toasts, every morning i think about my old toaster and almost cry with joy that i moved on!

get the 4 slice baby from this site,
http://www.west-way.com/catalogue/home_living_home_appliances_category.php?page=all

although they do seem to have others i cannot endorse them!
