What would it take for you to want to move areas or abroad and if so, where would you move?

I was born in London and have loved living here all my life and have always said I would never want to leave unless something special happened and for the first time in my life, I am actually willing to move and don't particularly mind where I go as long as we're happy.

What I want to know is what would it take for you to want to move, especially with the worlds current economical climate and where would you prefer?

France, west or south. To leave? I would need very few family ties here and a similar paying job or similar prestige.

I would love to stay for a long period but not forever.

At one point I was looking into what it would cost for me and three brothers to live in relative luxury for a couple of months or whatever the maximum is allowed by the US on a short term lease on an apartment.

Idea was that we could save up for a fair while then pool our money for good digs, but it never panned out.

I wouldn't especially want to move out of the UK but I'd like to be further north nearer to our families!! If I 'followed the sun' to keep warm in old age, I'd have to go to Italy.
To be honest, I don't really have roots anywhere (although like Loupomm I grew up, mainly, with two Aunties along the entry and grandparents down the road and the rest of my mum's family scattered around - but they've all gone now) so I don't mind where I am. Like you RFMan - happy together where-ever!!

At some point i'm considering going down to live in Cornwall, although my baby sister is in the North West, so it's too far away at the moment. I like to get back regularly, they grow up so fast when they are young

Prepare to have the highest water rates/council tax/energy costs with no public transport, low wages, constant gales!! Talk to kareokecol about Cornwall before you move here!!
It's OK in other ways!! Not the NHS though.

Hmm, bills would be an issue, not public transport, i very very very rarely use it, as i have a car, wages is also not a problem, as i am opefullly developing a computer and web design business, so would be making my own money, rather than relying on a job. Again, gales are something i can live with

if i had no ties it would be the south of france

Damascus, Istanbul, or Karachi

We've moved twice purely for similar reasons to the ops description.

We moved from our home town to Cornwall - a much slower pace of life - very relaxed.

However, Cornwall isn't the picture postcard life you imagine, it has it's rough parts, no prospects & local people who are rude, selfish & up their own behinds.
Also the schools, hospitals, services etc aren't much cop & few & far between & also the wages are diabolically low!

Earlier this year we moved to Dorset, just outside Bournemouth.
Better schools, hospitals, services, shops, jobs, money & a bit more life but still fairly relaxed in a funny kind of way - oh yeah & still near great beaches!!
The trick is to research where tou wanna move to & move only for the right reasons.
And don't let any people who are set in their own ways hold you back!

Labour getting re-elected again! Mind you, I said that three years ago. Only another two years of them to go, at most.
