Hi all,

Just a quick Q....

If you had around 8k to spend on a car what car would you buy and why?????

Im after a car had a civic for too long (I get bored pretty quick)...

*Has to be a diesel (I do a helluva lot of motorway mileage).
*P. S Bear in mind 3 kids in the back.

Not too keen on Vauxhall,Peugeot, Ford, Kia etc...

Prefer a BMW, Audi, Merc, Honda, Lexus/Toyota, VW.

I look forward to your replies.

For me reasons would be long and dull.

For you I believe you were right to go Honda given their reliability, but as you said you got bored.

Not sure what you have against Toyota, friend has a 04Reg Avensis which does the job and gives him good MPG.

Given you rule out so many major makes I would probably suggest something like a 2nd hand VW Passat maybe?

I suggest you have a gander around sites like http://www.honestjohn.co.uk etc.

Get a "cheap" (used loosely) runaround for 4k and get a bike for 4k inc extras. Car for boring practical day to day and bike for fun! Having 3 kids may be an issue in terms of how much fun you want to have with the responsibility and all.

Definitely an Audi A4. Economical, practical, hold their value well & as long as they are serviced & looked after the engine will go on forever.

ducati 749....

If the winters are going to be as bad as they have been , you want 4 wheel drive
If the fuel continues to rise as it has been recently , you want a very good mpg - Diesel is ideal .
Insurance is now going through the roof , possibly something in a low Ins group .

The above should count a few cars out .
I run a Zafira and a Vectra . Running 2 vehicles purely for myself is getting very costly nowadays .I've been looking for something to replace them both , but cannot make up my mind on what to go for .I have looked at a crew van type vehicle . Side doors , 4 or 5 seater with a Diesel engine . I did fancy a Vauxhall Vivaro , but some have issues .

3 kids on the back would affect handling and ducati dont make sidecars - gap in the market!! :{

Thanks I am actually steering towards Audi (apparently its the next best thing after BMW) well that was my sisters opinion.

Winter Winter, thats another thing I have to bear in mind, however Im not too keen on Vauxhall, my mate purchased a brand new Insignia 3/4 months ago and its already been to the garage twice they've now offered to exchange in march/2011.

Anyone got a Lexus IS 220d Sport..I really like that to, whats it liek on reliability fuel consumption etc??

I have just bought a Seat Altea for the kids runabout, 1.9 Diesel TDI and the fuel economy is superb, and its basically a VW anyway. Has all the extras.
