What would you do?

Recently opened 2 children's savings accounts with Halifax for my 2 kids online, but you have to go into the branch to verify their ID and a couple of other things. So i went armed with all the necessary stuff yesterday, joined the counter queue only to be told I needed to go to a different desk and that they could deal with everything there. Waited at the desk for about 5 mins ID was verified but was told I would have to go to the counter again for the rest of the transactions. Whilst waiting in the queue once again heard several customers complaining about the service they had received and saw one member of staff shut the door literaly in a customers face as they were closing, he had lost his card in the machine outside and was told come back tomorrow and we will get it for you!! Charming
So my question is what would you do, they seem to pay the best interest for this type of account 6% but i have read several blogs now too about their dreadful CS - hopefully I will not have to deal with them in the branch anymore as it is an online account.

why?

Op went to the wrong desk, was pointed to the correct desk who couldnt do certain things she asked. She was then returned to the correct desk?

whats the problem?

or is this another grasping khom-pehn-say-shun thread

Unless she had to physically pay money in to the account (cash chq etc) The desk should have been able to do everything.

I have always found Halifax very helpful both in branch and on the phone.Maybe they had just had one of 'those' days,it happens to us all!

If poor service is a rule rather than the exception then move banks.

sounds like you had same trouble as us its all online and standing order set up so we only go inonce ayear now to get his savings book updated

read the OP - the bit about "other transactions"

OP - stop getting your knickers in a twist because you had to queue in a bank.

No i think it is very bad customer service. The person who was told to come back tomorrow for his card out of the machine, if that had been me i would have stood in the middle of the bank and caused such a fuss and i am usually a very calm person. This would not have happened 5 years ago. The whole of the banking system is going to pot mainly becuase they spend so much time asking you if you want to buy insurances etc. My friend had worked on a bank till for 15 years and left about a year ago because she was so ambarrassed, they had turned her job into a saleswoman.

Shocking again - a CS desk that cant take cash/cheques etc because its not safe to do so.

So you overheard other people moaning and thought you'd dive straight on the bandwagon?

I suggest you arm yourself with a gun - a sawn off should suffice - march straight back in there and demand to see the manager (on behalf of the people you heard moaning of course)

Do you know how a cash machine works? You do realise that they cant just open it up there and then to retrieve a card dont you?

My point is not queuing its about the fact that I was told at the counter that they could do everythingat the desk only to be told there they couldn't. Also was told at the desk that i could arrange a standing order from one account to the other only to be told at the counter that I couldn't! Passed from pillar to post and this was my first experience think I will look and take my business elsewhere.

My mortagae WAS with them but when I went to renew I had rubbish service too. They kept me waiting outside the branch whilst I was on crutches before they opened 10 mins late. The sales asst kept on rolling her tongue stud around during the meeting and couldn't even give me an exact quote ("computer says don't know") . I gave them the benefit of the doubt and agreed to a second meeting but they didn't even write to confirm an appointment.

Phoned the Nationwide and got a better deal on the phone in 10 minutes. I've since taken my mum to the Nationwide and they've always been very helpful and their products are more competitve.

Halifax can go swivel.

Ive always had great CS from Halifax, when I had some fraud on my account earlier this year, they sorted it out and refunded my money really fast. They are always really good over the phone.

Actually thats exactly what they do. I have had this happen twice in the last 5 years and i went in the bank waited about 5 mins each time and then they got it out. It may be that some dont work like that perhaps as the last time it happened was about 2 years ago.

I had similar experience with Halifax when I attempted to open child regular savers last year. Customer service in branch slow and poor. Online similar, and letters slow to be answered. :x
