Whateverhappens Currys Insurance Nightmare (Help needed!)

To cut the story short, my Panasonic SD100 High Definition camcorder was covered by Currys Whateverhappens insurance policy. It was a reasonably powerful 3MOS sensor 1080i camcorder with manual controls, focus rings etc. Unfortunately, last week it was damaged and sent it to Currys for repair.

They couldn't repair it. They sent me a letter saying they will replace it with much cheaper model (Panasonic SDR-S50) which does not even record HD. I can't believe a genius in their insurance team checked my camcorder and decided to replace it with non-HD model. I have been paying a lot of money every month for that insurance. Their T&C says if they can't repair it, they will replace it with equivalent model available in the market.

So the question is Is there anything I can do to get similar specs model?

Has anyone gone through this before?

If I were you, I would read the policy.

my plasma broke and curry took it away and decided it was finished so they offered my a very good high spec one better than the original which i had had for about 8-10 years but we already bought a 50inch one so i went into currys and they showed me what i had been offered and then said i could put the cash amount on a gift card which i was happy to do but if i were you i would check the t&c how much were you paying monthly for it?

I did ask the advisor and read the terms and conditions leaflet. They are supposed to replace it with similar spec model. They issued same value voucher for my macbook. Why didn't they do the same this time?

I think you have to ask them. I googled it and the current policy states that the replacement will be of equivalent specification. That might be difficult for either party to justify, although if you had a HD recorder and it now isn't a HD recorder, that's quite simple.

Yes. That's why I am very disappointed. The replacement is not even HD. The technician doesn't even know the basic things about camcorder.

ask to speak to a manager and get their name if there not helpful and then write to them if you dont get the answer you want.

Yep, I agree with you. I sent email to their CS team and John Browett. Hopefully someone gonna reply my email on Monday. No point talking to the bunch of idiots in the shop. They don't know what they are doing. Next time no more PC Performance or Whateverhappens cover.

IWAS IN A TV SHOP YESTERDAY WHERE SOMEONE IN FRONT OF ME BOUGHT A pANASONIC WITH A MANUFACTURES' 5 YEAR GURANTEE. They had previously bought a TV from Currys @ £1500 and paid 11.99 pm for 4 years (48 x £11.99 = £575.52) - They gave them £180 and they were furious. Hence they were in an independent retailer who install & set up free and don't sell high priced 'insurance - read high profit worthless paper!

That's exactly what is happening to me right now. I am very disappointed. They don't keep their promises and follow their rules.
