Whats best price you paid for a last min holiday?

My wife, 5 yr old son and I was hoping to get away abroad this year as not been away abroad since 1998 when we first met and have never took my lad and been on a family holiday.

Money is tight and we cant go until after the 17th of july not have I sent for the passports yet lol.

What do you think the best price that will be possible for the 3 of us to get 14 hol in greece/spain majorca etc? Also any recomendations as to a nice quiet family place?

Just wondering what sort of prices to expect if going short notice?

We went last minute (booked three days before we left) last year and it was nightmare! Thomas Cook said late deals were rare these days and booking early was the best way to get good deals. Can't remember what we paid but had a week in Spain at a fairly decent price. Only had 3 options though and al in Alicante! Good luck and have a great time wherever you go!

I think money is tight for a lot of people this years so you're certainly not alone.

Keep an eye on travelzoo, or lastminute they can be great for last moment hols x x

And wish you and your family a lovely time.:)

We booked 4 days in advance (in May)and went to lanzarote and paid £258 per person for 7 nights HB... When we got there we were talking to others who paid around £1000 each for the same holiday! We went with Thomas Cook late Deals and had no problems

Thanks all, will check out those links. Need passports as ran out ages ago. Not sure how quick they will come this time of year though.

One of the bests deals I've ever managed to achieve was flights for 3 people to Bodrum, Turkey (now costs about £200 each for the same dates) and 5 star sea view private beach hotel with half board for a week costing only....£495 for all 3 of us.

Wth this being our balcony view...imagine waking upto this every morning:

lovely views but I just cant go back to a public pool / single room after having 6 bedrooms, own pool, kitchen, diners etc

Once you;ve had a private villa, its very difficult to book anything else. They can be had very cheaply if booking last minute (E.g. saw a 4 bed coral bay private villa for £225 per person including flights yesterday - 2 adults / max 8)

My bro always stays at a villa but there's no point booking a villa if you're going in a small party, as it would cost a bomb.

I was very happy with everything, there was about 5 pools available (one on every floor including bigger pools on the ground floors), including a practically private pool literally just under our balcony and the sea just at the bottom.
We didn't spend much time in the room anyway, as we were either at the pool, exploring surrounding areas, the beach or pigging out at the restaurants...I really got my moneys worth and put on weight for the first time ever on holiday. :giggle:

That's the best holiday I've ever experienced but I know it can be topped. :)

not true

as I said, saw a 4 bed villa with flights in cyprus for £450 for 2 adults!

We pay about £200-£300 each for 2 adults for 3/4 bed villa and flights (about 3 times a year).

I might have to check it out then but when I generally hear prices of villas stating from £200 per person, that normally means the maximum number of occupants, so I assumed you were talking about that.

One question though...why do you need all the extra bedrooms when there's only 2 of you...or do you invite who you find at clubs to come back to yours? :giggle;

cos most villas have 3 bedrooms minimum so hard to find one smaller.

our suitcases get a bedroom each as not really into clubbing these days :-D

e.g. This villa is £299 for a week in july and sleeps 6. The trick is to find cheap flights first though

check out the bathroom - need to mouse hover over pics

I hate you...I almost just booked that villa after seeing what a great deal it was and I hadn't even checked for flights or anything. :giggle:

Do you have any tips to find the heavily discounted villas and flights?

RFM if ur near bluewater u could pop into their shop and have a word with them. they are freindly and not pushy at all.

we were wanting to go florida with them but were waiting for one of their free car hire/insurance offers which crops up certain times of the year. we cant go now though as am expecting and we wanted to go at xmas but i'll be too far along.

I normally look for flights within a month of departure date and we normally pay about £50-£100 each as we are flexible on destination (within reason, never ibiza, majorca etc lol).

http://www.skyscanner.net/

once cheap flight found then look for a cheap villa.

We booked yesterday evening (7pm) for 3 nights in Costa Brava, all inclusive allocation on arrival (oh ear!!) but Meh, it worked out at £405 after a lot of haggling for the two of us, and it's all inc, so we shall have our fill of cheap local booze, lol.
Booked at 7pm last night, fly out 10:30 tomorrow morning, yay :)

Early seems to be better than late at the moment!

We've got a 4* All Inclusive 2 week trip to Sharm El Sheikh for £750 each. The Hotel is also in the Top 20 rated Sharm hotels on Trip Advisor!

Looking around then now you're looking at paying closer to the £1000-£1100 mark! 2 weeks in August/September.

I've been looking into buying a holiday for 1st two weeks in October. Thinking of using icelolly.com as they seem to have cheap deals. However am of course checking TripAdisor for the hotels first!

Will probably just be me and my 5 year old son going.

he's not started school yet - he is in August, but I'll take him out of school. The school has rules if the parent has job where they have trouble having school hols off they can take them out.

And I definately do as a theatre nurse. You have to book hols first week in Jan and hope to hell you get some of them... its a mad rush. And you only allowed 2 weeks during school hols for the entire year... to allow some people to hopefully get a school hol off some time, and even then just depends if you're lucky enough to get their first with the dates you want! Crazy really. I only started their last November, and noone told me about the school hol rush til it was too late to get any school hols off at all.

That sounds well mad. We have plenty of options to go due to the wifes holidays but not really the money due to having to take them at the most expensive times. Sods law really. It will be better hopefully once I am working again aslong as I can get holdidays easily enough as we will have more disposable income to go peak times. Oh the joys of having one wage and taking a 10 yr fixed mortgage! Should reap the benefits in 9 years though so not all bad:)

been to cyprus about 5 times (larnaca and paphos and coral bay) and crete about 7 times (Rethymnon, malia x 2 (a right dump!), chania x4). We always go in april/may/june/september as way too hot in jul/aug and dont see the point in paying to go abroad when its hot at home lol

always go to lanzarote in feb or march and stay in puerto del carmen villas as really cheap and weather is still fantastic then.

Cant say I've noticed pools being cold in crete / cyprus as weather is around 30 degrees.
