Whats the best value supermarket?
Hi, just looking for some opinions. On a bit of an economy drive due to Christmas and well, times are hard etc...
Normally shop at Sainsburys and like it there. Heard people talking about Lidl / Aldi for much better value - but maybe not the variety.
Anyone got any views on the best value supermarket? Not necessarily just the cheapest - the food has to taste good too, but definitely need to save money somehow!
Any ideas?

Jump to unread Post a CommentFor value I love Aldi and Asda and for the things I cannot get at either of those I use Tesco as their range is huge.
I have found that the Aldi alternatives of the main brands can be as good and sometimes better, occasionally the brand name is better but it's all worth a try.

As for aldi, lidl, i've only been in aldi a few times, got some nice cheap products, but i would never do a main shop there, overall poor quality stuff and awful stores.
Think i'll maybe try a big monthly shop at Tesco / Sainsburys and then try these discount ones on a weekly basis and hopefully spend less that way.
Is Morrisons cheaper than Tesco but more expensive that Aldi - so a good compromise?
If you use well known brands then consider using alternatives, if you want some suggestions then try aldi or lidl chocolate digestives against the brand leader., the same goes for most products.
Remember the aim of a supermarket is to make as much money out of you as they can, offers are a means to that end, be wise to it and reap the rewards.
Lidl are getting more expensive, only go their if I need an odd few bits cos its about a 1 min drive .
disappointed, i only came in this thread because i thought you'd say the one which sells items for 99p
Poor Shops will never live that down :D
I've found Tesco prices creep up and up but they do have the range which Asda, Lidl and Aldi don't have.
If you are shopping at Asda separate your shop into special offers and normal items. We just put 2 shops through at till (not as painful as it sounds, just separated by the next customer board)
With an all in one shop we rarely get a voucher back (we are quite careful at checking for deals etc anyway) - split it into 2 and we often get a decent voucher back on the 'normal' one as they tend to be at, or near, the same price in all supermarkets and Asda are committing to 10% cheaper.
Every little helps!...Oh wait :)
