HD  How much are you planning on spending? Do you want to be able to use a disk (dvd) so you can then just pop it in any dvd player? Have you got an HD TV? Need more info...

Check evilbay for "3CCD" camcorders. Good quality, and you should pick up a good one for about £150 or less. I also would go with Mini DV. Good solid realiable and cheap media. Also easy to hook up to puter and burn on to disks if required.

I'll go out on a limb and say go for an SD card camcorder over a DVD camcorder. SD card camorders are smaller, more robust, easy to connect to PC (USB or card reader) and with more HDTVs and DVD players having SD card readers/USB built in, it will only get easier.

The only advantage DVD based camcorders have is you can record and playback directly from the DVD, but they do tend to be larger (obv, they have an 8cm disc in them).

Try to stick to mainstream manufactuers (Sony, Panasonic, Canon etc all produce good camcorders) and try to go to somewhere you can play with the camcorders before you buy.

^^^ are all correct though, we need more info.
