Whats happening to Newcastle United?

2-1 against tottenham - i mean come on

I used to support manchester united from 1993 - 2007 - then i stopped supporting merely because i got sick of the team winning without really much effort

So last season i thought you know what im going to support Newcastle from 2007-2008 season- not a great choice last season change of manager and a terrible start - yes they improved near the end of the season
I rejoiced when Keegan was appointed and thought yes this is it newcastle will shine and come up top trumps next season

2008 -2009 season kicked off

1-1 against man u - yes i thought
1-0 against bolton - nice win and owens on form
3-2 against coventry - nice
0-3 against arsenal - ummm ok
NO KEEGAN - MIKE ASHLEY HAS RUINED THE CLUB
1-2 against hull - uhhh what!
1-3 against west ham - :-(
1-2 - against tottenham

4 game losing streak

Whats happening to the club - will it ever recover and will keegan come back ?

Im not unsupporting the club never - what kind of fan would i be if i gave up when they were losing - im no glory hunter- this shall be my footie club forever but it is starting to get worrying

What happened? They are carp, that's what happened.

Never heard of anyone switching allegencies(sp) because their team were too good.

They are in a right old rut that they will struggle to get out of.

Latest rumour is Terry Venables.

Don't bother doing the lottery this week...you change teams and you pick Newcastle :w00t:

Yeh not too sure about him though

So you stopped following Man U cos they were doing too well and now complaining about Newcastle because they're not?

man u were a good team but ronaldo is an idiot
I wanted a change - i only supported man u because red was my fav colour when i was younger and the red devils sounded cool
Theres something about rooting for underdog thats better than rooting or the winning team

not complaining - im saying that will they get out of their rut

Nothing has happened, last season you finished below Tottenham and West Ham, you haven't strengthened as much as we have so we should both have been expected to beat you.

The season before that you only got 45 points (2 more than West Ham 17 less than Spurs)

Before that you only finished 3 points above us (our first season back in the Premiership) and 7 below Tottenham.

Before that 14th 44 points

That's the problem Newcastle fans are very deluded you don't have a good squad, you don't have the best fans in the world, Keegan is not the Messiah, Ashely is not destroying Newcastle

A 15th-10th placed finish this season will be good for you, the cold facts are your not a good team, you only have one decent player and he is consistently injured

You haven't won a major trophy in about 50 years and only reached a final about 5 times in the same period.

You did have a good run in the past, but that is exactly that, in the past. The fans at Newcastle are the problem.

I think it's funny how the fans turn so quickly.

At least Newcastle are now the biggest joke in the Premiership, rather than Liverpool, for the moment anyway

I wouldn't say Liverpool are a joke, regularly finish in the top 4 and get to cup finals, massive support

I can name you 16 Premier League clubs that would love to swap their season last season for Liverpools

I don't think they're that bad really, they invest the money when it needs to be spent

Tottenham have been the biggest laughing stock over the last 3 or 4 years with all the we're a top 4 club rubbish, the only way that they can say they are a top 4 club is that their spending is in the top 4 of all Premiership teams, I think they are the second highest actually

Who knows what would have happened if you hadn't have poisoned them in that final match of the season a couple of years ago, and took Arsenals place. :p

Lol, the Spurs fans were actually saying at the time it was Wenger and Tottenham even went as far as getting the police involved!

Just like when Chelsea beat Liverpool in the final game of the season a couple of more seasons back, pipping them to 4th spot, and that was when Roman Abromovich came in and bought them. If Liverpool had won then the last few years might all have been very different

Or if Kia Joorabchian had taken over West Ham as was originally planned, we could sill have Tevez and Mascherano and could well have got Jo and any of the other big players he acts as an agent for or owner in some cases

Footballs a funny thing

Just look at these;

We also had a young Shevchenko on trial here and Beckham and Terry were at West Ham at a young age too

LOL. You just wished you had the cash we've got. The reason you haven't is you're a small club. (With financial worries)

Is the notion really that absurd that someone (yeh saying Wenger is amusing) might have done this? Anyway, they dont eat Lasange anymore! :p

We (Liverpool) also turned down Ronaldo before he went to Man U, and a deal for Berbatov fell apart when we drew Leverkusen in the CL 2005. I'm sure most clubs could look back at a list of players they missed out on and make a good team

We're owned by a bloke with a net worth of about $1.1 Billion and another with $3.5 Billion in your English pounds that's about £2.5 billion I think

Joe Lewis is worth about $2.5 Billion or about £1.3 million

We have no financial worries I assure you. We are in the process of becoming a self supporting club which I think you'll agree is a very important thing to do. That's now done give or take and now you'll see more of an investment in the playing squad and new stadium

LOL so why was Ferdinand sold to balance the books (and Curbishley resign over that lack of control over the the dimishing squad)?

Curbishley resigned as he didn't like the new structure Director of Football and all that.

Ferdinand was sold as he only has 2 years left on his current contract, he refused to sign a new contract so next season he could have bought his contrat out.

He was paid around 25k pw so could have bought his contract out for less than £1.3 million next year, no one would have bought him in January knowing in less than 6 months he could join who he likes for about a million. It made sense to sell him for £8 million whilst we could surely you can't argue that? Especially when Upson and Gabbidon were our best CB's then Collins, Neill & Ferdinand and then Davenport & Tomkins

So we wasn't left short at CB, that was purely a business decision.

Also we sold George McCartney for £5.5 million as he handed in a transfer request as his wife couldn't settle here. Not ideal as he was one of our best players last year but we bought in a LB on loan for a season who is already proving to be better than McCartney and we signed another on a free transfer who looks like he is a good prospect.

It's all about balancing the books, last season we had the 5th highest wage bill in the Premiership yet was nowhere near as good as a team that could finish 5th.

We also bought out Ljungbergs contract for around £5 million as it sved paying that waste of space 80k pw for another three years. We did try to sell him but no one wold buy him, Wenger done us good and proper with that one.

Our squad is a lot stronger than it was a year ago, unlike some

If you think Newcastle are gonna win the premiership anytime soon, I'd put money on forest getting automatic promotion this season, coming 4th in the premiership and winning europe (again) a safer bet than newcastle winning!

If you want to root for an underdog then support your local lower league team.

I support Walsall personally when i could have easily supported Aston Villa, Birmingham City, West Brom or Wolves if i wanted a Premiership team to follow.

Although our chairman is worse than Ashley. Our record transfer spent dates back to 1979 i think.

We never spend money on players but happily take money for the chairman to deposit into his pension fund. (Scott Dann £1m, Dan Fox £400,000, Fryatt £350,000 in recent years).

But still its satisfying to know that on saturday your team were town to 9 within 30 minutes and still beat a team that beat Man City today,

Villa aside, thats a bit or a contradiction! (Yeh I know WBA are there ATM for a season!)

Some of us don't decide who we support, I never had the choice of who I support (No Guv i'm not unlucky as even if I did I would still support West Ham not Tottenham)

My whole family are West Ham as far back as any of them can remember, my daughter is 9 months old but any time i'm at home watching a match I make her watch it with me! She's lucky actually as if she turned out to be a he I was going to name her after a West Ham player and none of them have any decent names so she would have ended up with a rubbish name.

You can still support a PL team and support the under dog anyway, look at West Ham in the FA cup final in our first season back up and Wigan in the Carling Cup final in their first season back up.

Teams like West Ham will always be the under dog, but it doesn't mean it's not fun to watch. See our relegation season we done the double over Man Utd and Arsenal yet struggled to lose by less than 2 goals to anyone else. We was the last team to win at Highbury and the first at the Emirates even the under dogs in the PL have their day.

They have all been in the Premiership over the past 10 years.

I didn't aim my statement at you, i aimed it at DanDoc.

Supporting the team your family does is tradition, i supported Man Utd throughout most of my youth (like my grandfather and father) but once i wanted to actually go to see games regually i decided on supporting a local team. Not sure why i supported Walsall (probably because they were the cheapest:whistling:) but once i did i really enjoyed going there.

Have enjoyed some great moments and some really bad moments (mostly the Merson era where he took us down 2 divisions :x). But winning league two and beating Notts (:p) Forest again last year (like usual) were some good moments.

Just concerntrating this season on making the playoffs and hopefully beating the cheating scum that is Leeds Utd.
