If its got carpet you'd need to vax it or steam clean probably. That's where a lot of odours lurk. Wash everything down with disinfectant as well (doors/skirtings). Open the window every day for fresh air too. Good luck!

I would assume that the smell is coming from the carpet and soft furnishings.

Hire a carpet cleaner, wash/change curtains and treat to new mattress/bed and bedding. Anything else is only going mask the smell for a short time.

I am in the middle of completely redecorating my youngests room, new carpet the lot! Drastic but a fresh start

A small pan filled with water, cloves, orange peels, cinnamon, and pumpkin spice is all that is necessary to deodorize and get rid of just about any bad smell. The scent of oranges and spice will waft through the house, and this natural deodorizer.

Lemons are a natural deodorizer. So they are a great addition to any homemade air freshener. Here are some homemade air fresheners that use lemons or lemon juice.
Make a homemade air freshener spray. In a spritzer bottle (a spray bottle that sprays a fine mist) combine one teaspoon of baking soda and two cups of hot water. Once the baking soda has dissolved, add one teaspoon of lemon juice. Put on the lid and give the bottle a gentle, side-to-side shake. Now you have a homemade air freshener that will absorb and neutralize odors, rather than just covering them up. Just don’t forget to label the bottle, so you’ll always know what’s in it.
Place some lemon rinds in a pot of water, and put the water on the stove to simmer. You can also use orange or even grapefruit rinds, if that’s what you have on hand. This homemade air freshener will keep your kitchen smelling clean and fresh.
A bowl of cut lemon or orange slices will make a wonderful homemade air freshener.
To deodorize your garbage disposal, grind a combination of ice and lemon rinds. You can also use orange rinds.
To remove the smell of garlic, onions, or any other unpleasant odors from, cut a lemon in half and rub it, cut side down, on your cutting board.
Cinnamon is a great homemade air freshener. Place some cinnamon and cloves in a pot of water, and put the water on the stove to simmer. This homemade air freshener will keep your house smelling clean and fresh.
Who knew white bread was a deodorizer? A few slices of white bread in your refrigerator will absorb unpleasant odors.

The important thing is to get the "kids" to do the cleaning themselves.. Yes, get all the stuff, cloths and cleaning products, but help them, but get them to do the hard work. They will appreciate it much more and will be more likely to do it themselves next time, and keep it not smelling of **** in future.

I have a jar of whole cloves, do I need to ground them and boil the water?

apologies for off topic, but at what age can you legally (if there is a law) leave your kids at home on their own?

Im talking two boys, 7 & 9 for 3-4 hours a time. my neighbour keeps doing it, personally I think its wrong.

Not sure. But I think there should be a law on minding your own business. Would make life so much easier :)

I think it's 13 ( not sure though ) but 9 and 7 def too young:x

OP try simple solution for carpets/soft furnishings, it's meant for pet urine/vomit/poo etc but also works well on baby/child urine etc, can buy it from good pet shops a nd pets at home etc, about £3.69 for small bottle, it doesn't just mask the smell , it breaks down the bacteria in the stain and removes smell, is pretty much safe on all surfaces and is child/pet friendly too

Just let your kid smoke in his room again. 4 years on and my local still smells of bleach and farts.

My mum used to beat us when ever we tried going to toilet at night so me and my brother would urinate in the corner of the room, maybe the OP does the same?

OP how old r ur kids that have this bedroom? You really need to get them to start looking after it - even if its a rubbish sweep every night and get them to collect all the crap lying about. Keeping on top of it is key!!!!!

Some good suggestions here though and the vinegar smell doesnt linger so dont worry about that:thumbsup:

I make mine tidy his room BEFORE any gaming/tv - hell do it quick then too (tho not as thorough as I'd like but its better than nothing), he's very messy and it has to be done most days.
