Assuming your dvd writer can burn both - and + then it won't matter which you use.

Some DVD recorders/readers can only handle one or the other.

All should handle -R, but +R is better quality

never heard that before about +r being better quality. Surely it depends on the manufacturer and dye used?

If you want good quality for files then DVD-RAM is a better choice anyway so I'd just treat the two as identical.
