Sorry!! I know people ask about HDDs all the time....

So you might have seen my other thread regarding being struck with adware. Im still trying to fix that problem but Ive decided to pull my socks up and purchase the long needed External HDD. I've been lookin for a while but now I'm definitely going to buy..

I thinkg I'm going to go for the Western Digital 500gb MyBook...but on looking for them there are two??

1: http://amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000EXZB0M/ref=s9subs_c5_at2-rfc_g1_75_12_2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=19ZYJNSYTYFVNR05VXR1&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=139042391&pf_rd_i=468294

2: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Essential-500GB-External/dp/B000WP0NM8/ref=pd_sbs_ce_img_1

now obviously I'd like to go for the cheaper option..but whats the drawback..is it slower maybe?

Im starting to think I should go for this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-Elements-500GB-External/dp/B000OS54TA/ref=pd_sbs_ce_title_2 but the MyBook is too sexy!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Both of them are the exactly the same in technical means;only outer look is different, and the second one is older model but not a bit worst than the newer one.I personaly would be going for cheaper one.Hope this helps.

They are essentiallly the same model. The second one is the newer version and is slightly smaller/lighter than the original.

They are both different

1) WDG1U5000

This is based upon the AAKS line of hard drives. These are a performance model and run at 7200rpm and full power consumption. The AAKS were, for a while, one of the top performing desktop hardrives (exc scsi etc). The case is vented as it gets hotter.

2) WDH1U5000

This is based on the AACS line of hard Western Digital Hard Drives, known as their green line due to power saving measures. They are proported to have a spindle speed of 5400 - 7200 rpm which is misleading - it is not variable, and generally thay are 5400rpm

With regards to reccomendations it really depends on your budget and what you will be doing. Mostly (my experience/opinion only) the average user does not utilise an external drive in such a way that the difference in speed is obvious.

Do you mean it has a fan, because both cases appear to have vents?
