Whats the longest number of hours you have worked for !

13 hours today !

Logged in at work around 1300 hrs local time (0800 a.m. UK) and will be around till 2-3 a.m. (around 9-10 p.m. UK) as our deadline on a certain project has been reduced by three full days so tomorrow will be a long day I reckon....

last year our team had once spent around 17 hours in the office, but we did go out for lunch and dinner and had a couple of days off afterwards ...

How many straight hours have you worked for ?

my OH works in advertising and has been known to do 24hours+ with no break. they horrid. he never takes a lunch break now, and last week they waited till he was leaving to tell him that he needed to stay on for few hours, he winded up finishing at half past midnight. so thats 8.15am till 12.30am so thast 16 and half hours with no breaks at all. and then he had to get train home, so home for 1.45, and back on a train again for work the next morning at 6.30.

Worked 23 hours straight, went home for 4 hrs and came back and did another 20. But that was what seems a lifetime ago when I worked in the computer room way back when it all seemed so new and was always going wrong and you had to stick with it till the systems were back up and running. There were others like that across the board, but that one sticks out as I couldn't sleep when I went home, so basically turned around and came back in!

No seriously, that was my days on the Navy

When were in Plymouth doing BOST (Basic operational Sea Training) on Tuesday night I was Bosuns mate (stand on the gangway with a rifle) I was on the gangway from 2am until 8am. Usually after your watch finishes you go to bed but the ship was sailing to I stayed on the gangway until 10am (8 hours so far) the ship then sailed so I went to my harbour stations, it took us about 2 hours to get out to see (10 hours so far) then we done a mock up war which lasted until about 4pm. We then had to sale back to Portsmouth as the ship had a problem unlucky for me my watch was doing the dogs that night. 4pm until 8pm so I done that.

When I was coming off my watch the ship was again called to harbour stations because of the problem and that's how we stayed all night, I was Yankee party which involved being part of a team that does regular checks of the ship all night to maintain the water tight integrity.

I done that all night until we docked in Portsmouth the next day which was about lunch time, we then had to get rid of the rubbish on the ship, stow anything from harbour stations away and does some other arriving in harbour stuff. Finally I got off about 5pm and went to bed lol. I did get awarded with 5 days leave though which was nice

That was the worst I had done but i've regulralry done 24 hours+ when I was in the Gulf I spnt 35 days following this routine;

Midnight - Get up have a shower an something to eat
1am - go on watch
7am - come off watch breakfast etc
8am go to bed
lunchtime - get up have a shower & lunch
1pm go on watch
7pm come off watch - dinner etc
8pm go to bed

Then the next day do the same except between 8am and lunchtime I didn't sleep instead I one my personal stuff (phone calls, letters, e-mails, ironing etc)

Then repeat the cycle for 35 days

You can't class the RN as hard work, I done longer than that tabbing round brecon. Mind the navy lads don't need to sleep with all the drugs they take on shore leave, that'll keep em awake:whistling:.

My Dad was a Chief in the RN, I brought shame on the family when I joined the army.

Oh you'll be surprised, it's not all as they say "easy sailing"

Most ive done is working 15hour shifts for six nights a week for four weeks running motivation was the money though as it was a good earner, I think it was netting us all around £850 a week after taxes and NI (this was 8 years ago too). I needed a long break after that though, I think I took about six weeks off, others it made ill too as it was pushing yourself beyond all limits and a few of us all reported near misses driving home after shifts (it didnt help with potent glue fumes in the air in the work sections)

Yeh, thats a long stretch.. beats me by a long way. Did do 2 x 16hour shifts once on a Saturday and Sunday (In the days where that earnt me double time for all those overtime hours! If only I could get the opportunity now!)

I work the other 2 days 8:00 - 5:15pm and have Saturday and Sunday off. I use the word "off" loosely as I play football on both days!!
