Also i know its 'Free' to use but i have heard a few people say its rubbish, probably just fanboys though? i mean playing a game online must be the same as the 360? i was thinking of maybe getting one mainly because of the Blu ray player. but is the gaming experience worth it? as thats what will count at the end of the day.

i see, i know xboxLIVE is pretty awesome and didnt expect PSN to be better, but then again it is free. Although onlin play is probably what i enjoy most. i just dont want to find PSN is really quite poor? although im guessing it wont be

Xbots will say the PSN is rubbish, but the fact is, they have not played on the PSN.

I hate to sound like a fanboy but here is why PSN is better;

1) it's free !!!!
2) Dedicated servers (faster connection than the 360 which has P2P, like Limewire.......nuff said).
3) If Sony can do decicated servers for free and Microsoft cant, does this not tell you Microsoft are robbing you blind
4) The service on the PS3 is fast, stable + secure
5) You can downloads demos, free stuff, wallpapers, themes etc on the PS3.

Trust me, the PSN is better than Xbox Live.

Oh and also, the PS3 has bluetooth built in so you can use your bluetooth headset which has better build quality than those cheap and nasty headsets for the 360 which break SO EASILLY. (well, mine did anyway)

Don't get me wrong, the 360 isn't awful, but you really would be paying for a service which isn't as good as the PS3's, and the PS3 experience is absolutely free!!

EDIT:

I went off on a bit of a rant there.

You can also download PS1 games (some optimized for use on HDTV's) for a small fee. I find myself playing Populous (one of the best games ever IMO) and Wipeout HD etc.

Any questions, ask me!

I use my ps3 more but i could have been the other way round if i had got my 360 first i think, both almost the same at gaming.

the ps3 outsold the wii & 360 in Japan recentally
and blu-ray's have sold faster than dvd's did when they were released

also:
blu-ray = 50gb
dvd = 8.5gb

so as games get bigger and more complex the ps3 has the advantage. It might sound like im being biased but im sure you alrady know the good points of the 360.

-edit
never had any problems using the PSN, i think that the people who moan are the ones using a carppy wi-fi connection.
and its great as its free

Good points. ''Apparently'', so the story goes, because the 360 DVD disks have so much less storage space, GTA IV was toned down and Rockstar offered the extra levels to the highest bidder. Microsoft outbid Sony purely so the PS3 wouldn't run away with sales because of the higher quality Blu Ray disks. This cost Microsoft $50m and on top of the millions of $ they lost over the red ring of death......i still wonder whether it was a wise move. I'd have to look at the sale of the extra GTA episodes and see how they sold.

Sorry, off on a tangent again!

EDIT:

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, the PS3 has BUILT IN WIRELESS unlike the 360 which you need to shell out an extra £45ish for. So £40 1 years subscription, £45 for wireless.

PS3 saves you £85 right away!

I know i sound like a REAL fanboy but i promise you i'm not. I just couldn't believe how badly i had been ripped off by Microsoft with the 360.

Lot's of people I know complain of lag when playing on PSN .

Yes it's free and as an whole the PS3 offers more than the Xbox360 but then you pay more for the PS3 than you do an xbox360.

Xbox360 + Xbox live = £250ish

PS3 = £300+

Are they on dial up?

I've had lag like once on my PS3 and i was downloading the Nero 9 trial which was approx 340mb and playing music on a PC.

I just don't see the benefits of paying approx £40 a year for LIVE. There's nothing mystical about it. It's not WORTH that £40 a year. I paid £40 and i really couldn't see where my money was going. You get just as much, if not more out of the PSN and it's free. Even my mates have said that after playing the PS3 online, they are tempted to make the switch (one already has) as while it's not breaking the bank, it's not necessary to spend £40 when you could save it.

Even the Wii is free online. Microsoft are taking us for a bunch of idiots.

Not as good as XBL but it's free.

There are some deals about for the PS3, you just need to keep a look out. I got my PS3 over a year ago, and that cost me £250 with four games thrown in as well.

I have to say, I found Xbox live quite poor, particularly as its a paid for service. Ive never experienced lag on my ps3, and a lot of people moan about the wireless, but I think they have not set their routers up correctly for it, and that is the reason they experience problems.

I also agree with the point further up - surely with games in HD it cant be long before we go past the 8.5 GB storage of a DVD, which will then mean that Microsoft may either have to design a new drive, bring back HD-DVD or release a new console (personally, I think the next generation of consoles may move away from using CD's and use 'cards' instead).

my only problem with PS3 online is that cos it's free there are lots more lil kids who quit if you beat them or score too early in fifa etc!

perhaps slightly more people online on ps3 i found that live but other than that they're basically the same!

in my experience on COD,Halo ect... there have been many little kids screaming. one i remember well kept going 'i like cheese, i like cheese, i like cheese'

I find Americans are generally more tactical online, hence why i enjoy playing with/against them, that is on the PS3 or 360.

My favorite games have been with Americans. British kids are all brats who shout down the mic

Your missing the point that the PS3 is more expensive than the Xbox 360, You can buy an Xbox 360 and a couple of years of Live for the price of the PS3 console.

As far as the service goes Xbox Live is generally said to be better than PSN but then theirs not much in it and as said you have to pay for Live so over a few years the Xbox 360 will be more costly if playing on Live.

Over all I think the PS3 offers better value for money, But the initial outlay is more.

I'd rather not have to pay for Live but then at the present time the Xbox 360 offers a greater array of games etc...

However the PS3 is catching up and one day I maybe brave and make the switch myself...!!!

That's a fair point you make buddy, wasn't meaning to be cheeky with the dial up comment btw

Alot of 360 owners say that the 360 offers a greater array of games. I've not found alot of evidence to back this up. I'd say the PS3 + 360 are equal in terms of the array of games....both have shoot em ups, rpg's, kids games etc.

The only console with a poor array of games would be the Wii imho

The wii is shocking for anyone over 10. my sister is 11 and even she prefers the 360.

To me, Nintendos days are over. I loved the Gameboy Pocket (i was one of the first people to get one when i was younger). Loved the NES/Snes. The N64 was where it all fell apart for me.

Mario Kart 64, Mario 64, Mission Impossible..a couple of other games (never liked Zelda though).

The gamecube was utter TOSH. 99% of games were god-awful. The Wii gained ALOT of momentum due to the fact people were not eating healthilly and people said the Wii will help you lose weight etc and considering it's a very cheap console, sold millions.

I got a Nintendo Wii to see what the fuss was about and it is basically a gamecube with novelty controls. Awful games, poor graphics, limited appeal. cheap and nasty controls. Dont get me wrong, i loved some games e.g Resi 4. But as a console in 2009, it's severely lacking

Yep, PS3 is catching up, Theirs obviously a lot of fan boys from both sides of the market who make claims that one console is better than the other.

I think in time the PS3 will offer more as it as Bluray, Wireless and everything else minus the RROD.

The media format will be the Xbox 360 downfall really unless they make a Bluray drive for it and offer Bluray games etc

However I don't think it'll be long before Microsoft bring out another console that'll match or better the PS3.

Not another bloody fanboy thread.

For the love of God I have never read so much drivel in all my life, I hate this pretending to be impartial rubbish, just to try and disguise what is obviously a biased opinion.

although I admit it was good for a few chuckles, it's just that at my age I have been through this so many times, Atari VCS vs Intellivision vs Colecovision vs VIC 20 vs Dragon 32 vs Spectrum vs C64 vs Atari 800 vs NES vs Master System vs Atari ST vs Amiga vs Megadrive vs SNES vs PC Engine vs Neo Geo vs MEGA CD vs Jaguar vs Saturn vs Playstation vs N64 vs Dreamcast vs PS2 vs Xbox vs Gamecube.

None of them work in a power cut anyway which for my money makes a book the best entertainment system.

PS3 online is overall good stuff imo. Sometimes PSN goes down but generally it seems to be fine I don't have any statistics or anything...sometimes its just a case of logging back in and you are good to go again...but tbh it doesn't happen to me often.

PS3 works better with wired connection (directly plugged into modem not router) from my experiences.

There are annoying mandatory updates every now and again but they just take a little time to d/l and install no brain work...plus sometimes they actually add useful features in the updates.

Although i only jumped on board at the time of the NES/Master System wars, i know 'fanboy wars' do get annoying, so i try to speak in facts and common sense.

After the PS3 vs 360 vs Wii era, i'll probably stop gaming, or switch to PC gaming. I hardly have time for gaming now and i'm going to sound old here (and i'm not, i'm 19) but i remember sitting down and playing Sonic for the first time on a Sega Megadrive, Mario for the first time on the Snes, getting the racoon suite and flying way up into the clouds. Back then, it all seemed alot more fun, nowadays, good games, and i mean REALLY REALLY good games are few and far between. I mean, Cod4 is the best shoot em up of the last decade IMO and yes, although i'm 19, i do remember being 9.

1) it's free !!!!
2) Dedicated servers (faster connection than the 360 which has P2P, like Limewire.......nuff said).

4) The service on the PS3 is fast, stable + secure
5) You can downloads demos, free stuff, wallpapers, themes etc on the PS3.

1. Yeh its free, but its costing the publishers a lot of money which is why you get more content on the 360
2. Some games use dedicated servers, most dont - just like xbox live.
3. See above
4. So is Live.
5. You can do the same on the 360.
