I went last yr for my birthday - enjoyed the Dungeons (but try to get a discount voucher before you go in) and also May Kings Close which is an underground 'lost' town.

Arthur's Seat is worth a climb. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the peak and is at the foot of the Royal Mile, which is both a great shopping location for Scottish stuff, and also host to the Scottish Parliament, which is also free.

Other fun attractions include Princes Street Gardens, which look nice and feature a play park for the kids at the West end (that is, the end furthest from Arthur's Seat), and Cramond Island, which is about 30 minutes from Princes Street on a 41 bus. Nice place, though. Catch it at the right time, and you can get some cracking views of the sun setting over the Forth. Although, watch for the water table, because it gets pretty cold if you get stuck there overnight.

Edit: Oh, and Edinburgh Zoo. I think the 26 bus takes you there from Princes Street. Awesome place. Used to love it when I was a kid.

the kids will love the zoo-its a must see-very hands on with sealion and penguin displays, animal petting sessions and talks-you could spend a whole day there and the koala house is now open-far as I know the only koalas in the united kingdom and they are so cute.

The Dungeons are well worth a visit and very central. But there are vouchers available on the web somewhere which will reduce costs. The Castle is also very central if you are in to that sort of thing. The Zoo is a bus ride out but could spend ages there. Hope the weather is nice for you!!

The castle is expensive to get into, we usually walk up the Royal Mile along to the castle and walk back down the hill into the park and find the nearest pub - lol!!

when you going?

If its a day when there is a game on at murrayfield you should get yourself down there. It is an excellent day out and going out in town after a game is great cos unlike a lot of football matches the supporters are there for a good time and they are some of the best nights out i have had in edinburgh.

Also is camera obscura still going on the royal mile? Used to love going to that when we were little
