i look in for sale trade and buy and i see time after time people selling there goods at a start price over and above its real value , without pointing at anyone i just came from looking at a phone , a U600 which someone is looking at 110 quid plus postage , i go to fleabay and sure enough the first 3 phones finishing in minutes time are at 50, 62 , 75 ( no bids ) and 0.99 pence ( no bids ) , whats going on , am i missing something , is it an assumption that when a price is listed people will jump at the chance and not cross reference with auction sites and new price and yeah ive seen a fair few times used stuff at more than new stuff , i always thopught that new desirable should be 60% of retail going down to 30% as it reaches an age and with the turnover of technology then an age is months not yrs , pricing here is crazy , also noticed someone selling a couple of broken phones for 50 quid ,,,,,, to me there scrap when an old cheap phone needs attention !

am i missing something here , is there a reason for this and im out of the loop so dont know or is it just false hope on the part of the sellers

all i can say is from experience, (i havent sold anything just traded and bought a few things from here)
of doing bootsales i always add a couple quid to an item someone shows interest to as they will 9/10 ask for it cheaper this way i get what i want and the buyer gets it for a bargin everyones a winner

I think one of the problems is that the forum rules dictate when selling, you must state a price at which you are willing to sell. I have never used the selling thing here, and never would, but if I were to sell something I sure as heck wouldn't put a low price on it, I'd put as high a price as I could get away with and then let people try haggle me down.

so whos got the handbag avatar to complete us ?

i do find it odd peoples ideas of value , they come up with a price based on what they know of market value then seem to add say 50% or so and as im ****** at haggling i just turn my back on them , i dont put a lower bid in as if i want something i like to know its price without any questioning , id love to be able to pop into the local petrol station and say 40 quid ???? nahhh ill give you a tenner mate and see how i get on

I politely told someone last week that the starting price for their phone was possibly overpriced.

It fell on deaf ears though, if people want to chance their arm, fair enough, it rarely results in a sale, so no harm done.

I'm the babe in the club who dances seductively on the stage!!! :w00t:

If I am looking to buy I tend to skim over the stuff that is overpriced and only really look at the proper price stuff.

In answer to your question, if I were to put up a brand new simfree N95 for £150, someone would offer £120. If I were to put it up at £120, it would receive an offer of £105. So, you go mid to high on the asking price and get what it's worth.
