Hi :) There was no separate vote or "special award" you've missed.
Last month we looked at a few stats from 2016 to see if we could work out which merchants appeared to be most popular with our members. In terms of average deal heat and HUKD members interacting with their offers, Ebuyer came out on top in the computing category and this is something they've decided to publish on their site.

Sorry for the delay in responding here.
So the following were "best in category"...
Best audio-visual deals of 2016: Argos
Best ‘home’ deals of 2016: Wilko
Best fashion deals of 2016: H&M
Best grocery deals of 2016: Lidl
Best gaming deals of 2016: CDKeys
Best computing deals of 2016: Ebuyer
Stats used to choose the winner included average deal temperature for their category deals and also total HUKD member click throughs to their site from the HUKD deal thread.
When the results were worked out our PR team then reached out to the merchant(s) to let them know and this was also covered in some press (see links below). This was the first time we've done something like this. If it is something HUKD decides to run again this year then we'll look at the feedback given here and see how we can improve. One way for sure would be to make sure we're posting here to let our members know what we've done and why. http://www.mirror.co.uk/money/2017-best-shopping-deals-uk-9726165http://money.aol.co.uk/2017/01/30/where-to-shop-for-the-best-deals-and-discounts/
Mj, don't you think it's a bit cheeky of Ebuyer to boldly state 'voted best on HUKD for computer deals' when it was nothing of the sort, because there was never any vote?

Yeah I read the writing but I still don't understand. Are you saying that its because a lot of people buy these deals or that somehow ebuyer bribed people to vote (although I've never seen an actual vote before).

I think you just wanted to show a semi-clad girl bouncing up and down on a pogo stick. You did, didn't you!

I think he's implying ebuyer have paid for this accolade by having a larger referral fee, or maybe even paying an additional fee to be allowed to display that. I'm sure he's right.

I'm not glued to this site but I don't remember a consumer vote type thing?

Ebuyer too... frequently panned on here for poor customer service....

Lol it's because we all know how ''business'' works and we weren't born yesterday. Why would you sift through all this data to then make the effort of telling each retailer with absolutely no benefits involved?

There could be a number of reasons why any website would choose to do something like this (case studies, PR, providing feedback etc).

If you're not getting any money for it that's very silly IMO. It looks like you did. I doubt you got much anyway and it's damaging to HUKDs reputation, a few % of the 'interactions' were people saying how terrible they are!

Except there was. As they say shoppers vote with their feet. We voted like lab rats, when we clicked hot on deals and clicked on links.

Not saying i agree but it is more a passive vote than an actively asked for one. Anyway we'd all disfigure the ballot paper and vote for Chomps.

HUKD probably even provided them with the graphic to use. Wouldn't surprise me if HUKD handed it to them like that.

Still not convinced there's nothing in it for them.

Reading the news articles it seems as though HUKD's PR team made out as though this was something which users of this site actively participated in and voted on.

From the Mirror:

UK money-saving forum, HotUKDeals, has revealed which retailers offered the best value for money in 2016 as voted for by consumers.

From AOL:

Among the factors considered by voters were price history, quality of the product and the retailer.
