Yes, you won't regret it.

i bought the OH a xbox for a present back in october, it broke once we had it back for a few weeks and then broke again. took it back to argos and basically told them were to put it lol. they said if they give us a brand new one with a free 3 year guarantee would we accept as a way of apology? we said yes, but if it does break again my OH said he will def be buying a Playstation 3

Got loads of 360 games which I simply do not play and only really bother with MW2 these days. Fed up with a console thats not reliable. Will probably wait until a good deal comes along for PS3 to as I'm in no rush as I sold my HDTV so not really going to benefit from the bluray anytime soon. Alot more functionality to a PS3. I never thought I would be saying this acouple of years ago :-D

PS3's break too - not as much as XBOX's but they do fail...

The biggest mistake a person can make in their life is to swap a 360 for a ps3

Surely you've thought about getting a PS3? :p Its not all about the exclusives it used to be with a 360. If anything, more PS3 these days....

Ive got a ps3, it is literally gathering dust, i occasionally watch a bluray and uncharted 2/motorstorm pacific rift/valkyria chronicles are good but the 360 is much better online, the pad is better, the graphics and frame rate of cross platform games are generally better, the online is better. Its better.

Let me know when your 360 goes puff and I'll swap mine for your PS3

Got both and xbox is like 10 times better. The only reason i even turn on my ps3 is to play the exclusive games such as metal gear solid 4 and soon heavy rain :P

Online gaming on the ps3 is so god awful compared with the xbox, you can see why the ps3 one is free compared with the £25-30 year sub for xbox, so much more simpler to do basic things such as chat to people on your friends list.

chat to people on your friends list.

You're assuming I have friends. This was I definite perk but now most of my mates are on PS3. I was always abit concerned the PS3s online stability wasn't as good but alot of people saying its about the same as 360 (Although I am happy to pay live to keep a good service).

What's wrong with the PSN? It lets you play games online like Live, and you don't get shafted every year by Microsoft.
I never have any problems or lag issues online.

It all comes down to who your knocking around with I guess, and most of the people I know have jumped on the PS3 bandwagon. Keeping both would just be a waste for me as don't really play any of the exclusives on 360 anymore

This makes no sense if most of your mates have a PS3 then wouldn't you already know the answer as to which is best online ?, unless they don't let you in their house why wouldn't you know the difference ?....

Don't really understand your question. I have found out that online play is about the same but previously thought it might be worse as it was a free service.

I swapped my 360 for a PS3 two years ago and have never regretted it. For me the only exclusive i liked on the 360 was Gears of War but on the PS3 theres so many i enjoy (MGS4, Uncharted, InFamous, LBP etc).
As for paying Microsoft a yearly fee just to play online i thought was ridiculous, thats what i pay my ISP for, and i never came across any dedicated servers setup by MS with this money that is paid to them, any online play i had to connect to someone elses xbox across the world which meant i had lag.
With PS3 its pretty much the same you connect to a host. but on this console i have noticed dedicated servers.

There is one thing i do miss though and thats the 360 controller, i think that is built very well, while the ps3 controller ive found it feels a bit cheap.

PS. if there is dedicated servers on Xbox then my apologies but i never came across any.

(This is what I understand in regards to playing online based on information I read quite some time ago so by all means take this with a pinch of salt)

Warning: Late night ramblings are prone to spelling and grammatical errors. :)

In regards to online play don't both use a P2P system where the person with a best internet connection hosts a game? With that said a possible reason as to why Xbox Live has a better stability compared to PSN would be due to the install base (amount of people who own a Xbox 360) being higher although this is subjective seeing as the recent deals on the PS3 due to the release of the slim is perhaps closing that gap.

If someone would clarify as to how each system works online it would be greatly appreciated.

Now imo (with the assumption that the above info about online is accurate to this date) I think the idea of paying for a subscription to play online is perhaps overpriced considering the difference of service is not that different from one another these days.

Before without a doubt there was a huge difference between the two online services which on that merit legitimised the reason to have the service on a subscription but now not so much.

With both offering a video on demand service, both competing for exclusive/early release of demos and DLC, both having that competitive/bragging edge on gaming with achievement/trophies, both allowing personalisation, escapism and social aspect with their gaming profile via Avatars/Playstation Home it's not exactly surprising to see people questioning how the subscription is justified.

Yes both have their differences here and there but is it really worth that yearly £x fee?

This, coupled with the future possibility of Sony providing a subscription business model for their online service (Calm down, playing online (and all current services) will remain free, Sony are thinking of providing a subscription service for those who would like additional benefits as well as playing online for free - such as early beta access, save files stored online, unlimited PS1 classics/minis, 1 hour play demos of newly released games - not confirmed but considered which is understandable seeing as something has to generate revenue to maintain their online servers and whatnot, just hope cross party chat isn't included as an extra!) I hope Microsoft pull something from their sleeves (and not just a Game Room to play Atari arcade games...) to keep their customers paying for Gold membership, change the benefits between Silver+Gold or at the very least lower the price for Gold membership.

In regards to the OP's question... I don't know (I apologise for using this thread as an opportunity to discuss about Xbox Live's subscription) :p

Edit:
For the sake or not being called a fanboy for any side (thought I was being quite neutral but anyway) I did have a Xbox 360 and maintained it well till it broke of me and now own a PS3. Play online with a wireless connection and have had no problems on it (any I've had is usually due to my router restarting itself...) and downloading content (demos, trailers, DLC, PSN games) have always been fast (except for MAG beta seeing as that used a P2P system).

Can't say ive used Xbox live heavily(only a couple of times) but imo the 360's UI is cluttered full of adverts and confusing, going back to the xmb on the ps3 is a relief. Its quite obvious where everything is, games under game for example :p

As for online, I experience lag mostly on cross platform titles if any at all(mostly on COD:MW2) as there are more people playing it, as others have said more games have dedicated servers. A couple of years ago the live v psn argument was right but now as far as i can see they are as near as damn i equal (psn is behind on cross game chat)

You bought a brand new 360 last October and it broke down after a few weeks? Was it RROD?

You say you had it back for a few weeks? Was it sent off to MS? Wouldn't you have just demanded a new one straight away off Argos? They're normally good like that.

My Xbox 360 has broken 5 times but still believe it's the better console. Maybe not hardware wise, other than the controller, which is perfect.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction
Crackdown 2
Halo Reach

All on my must buy list. Probably get a PS3 when GT5 comes out.

Just be an adult and use both.

There are enough exclusives and decent things on both to make it worthwhile, and it means you don't become a fanboy:thumbsup:

I use my PS3 for the exclusives and sports multiplayer games, blu-ray, iPlayer and playing music and video files on.

It's also a good way to browse the internet when you've got friends round.

I use the 360 for music games, Last.fm and Skyplayer.

Just don't buy a Wii:thumbsup:

Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell, Halo Reach, Forza 3, Alan Wake and Gears of War 3 are all great games.

The PS3 also has great exclusives like LBP, Infamous, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, GT5 and GOW3.

I don't understand why people can't be objective about these things.

I'm no fanboy, just saying which one i prefer.
And it's no point making stuff up like the PSN being down 12 times in 6 months.
I've never had a time where the PSN has been down in 6 months, i've only known of one time in 2 and a half years where it was down, and that was quite soon after release.

Trouble is what you have said there was the best bits the main parts are just the standard hack and slash type gameplay....

Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2 much better games..

no, mate, theres flying too, combos, you can grab people and use them as a battering ram, best graphics on a console, grab people and rip them in half, or rip theres head off, take control of a psyclops. and more mad ****

Tbh itt will almost always come down to:

Which controller do you prefer?

I cant deal with the PS3 controller, never have been able to, dont like the way it feels. You can buy crappy adaptors but its not great.

If you like PS controller then get a PS3.
