Take to an antiques dealer and see what they will offer then double it and that figure is roughly what the item is worth!

Seems like I will have to venture out... anyone know somewhere reputable in South London area?

If that lol.
We had one out for a price on somehing, said like £30 and took it somewhere else and just over £100.

If you dont have a clue about the subject, chances are someone will try and rip you off.
Bit like PC shops charging £80 to install an anti-virus lol.

Take it to a few dealers, maybe check online, and get a few different quotes.
Guarantee some of them will be stupidly low.

Do make sure also that you ask for someone who knows about vases and/or lamps.
Most dealers have staff that have specific knowledge.

We took a painting to be valued but the painting expert wasn't there that day. The painting
is designed to show 3 figures. The person we saw obviously had no idea of the style or
historical significance. He said that the subject was a bit dull and it was a shame that it
wasn't a landscape. I was speechless! lol

And they are one of the best known auctioneers in the country.

You could try browsing through eBay for similar items and what people are willing to pay.

You need to tell them you need it valuing for insurance reasons, then you will get a realistic price for what it is worth.

Auctioneers can be quite good, when my nan died, my parents got all of her stuff valued as junk for probabte. sod the fact there was a 16th centuary mirror, one of 3 left surviving and worth over 3k, lol

I think PC world charge £100 to "install" a TV... If people are daft enough to pay the prices will stay :giggle:

This place features on tv programmes like Flog It.....http://www.chiswickauctions.co.uk/
so seems as good a place as anywhere to start.

HTH :)
