Where are all the Bourbons?!

This may sound a bit weird, and I certainly never expected to be asking this - but where are all the bourbons?

I haven't been able to find any bourbons (as in the bourbon cream chocolate biscuits) for several weeks now. I always buy biscuits and custard creams and bourbons are always top of the list. But every time I've gone to the supermarket recently they've been out of stock. At first I thought nothing of it, but after looking every time for about 2 weeks I realised that it was the same in every supermarket I went to - I've tried Morrisons, Sainsburys and Tesco and none of them have had any bourbons for weeks - just empty spaces on the shelves where they should be.

Has anyone else noticed this? Do you know why this is happening? What is going on? :(

Odd. Can't say I've noticed, I do my shopping online with ASDA and just shove a load of whatever a search for 'smartprice biscuits' brings up in my basket! Can't say I've had any for a while though.

Can't say I've noticed, but will have me looking now :P one of the few biscuits I can have!

Tescos biscuit barrel usually includes them I think

There was a fire at a United Biscuits packaging factory last month which supplies supermarket own brands

coalition government has made bourbon biscuits illegal-custard creams are next on the list(this may or may not be a fact)

It's more health and safety b-locks.
Because you can choke on the biscuits and they kill everyone.

Brilliant. Well, it's not brilliant, but I'm glad I know why now! I knew someone on here would have the answer. Odd that it's affected bourbons and not custard creams - perhaps custard creams sell better so they've given them priority. The article says that the stores put notices up to inform customers but I didn't see any.

I suspect that Morrisons had some in stock yesterday and they were all quickly snapped up because when I was in there was one packet in the otherwise empty space on the shelf, but that packet was ripped in half with the biscuits strewn all over the place. I didn't pick them up because, although I've been keeping an eye out for them, I'm not that desperate (they're actually more for my girlfriend). Hopefully they'll be back next time I visit!

I would honestly not be surprised if either of those were the correct answer...

I think that when it reaches mid November we need Bourbons.
I , indeed, gave them a thought on the 10th.
Disconcerting that they are not available.

just seen loads in asda harlow albeit smart price and asda own !

Crisis over - got some from Sainsburys yesterday. The shelf wasn't fully stocked, maybe only half full, so either they're not back up to full capacity yet or it's people stocking up! Either way, they're back.

too late, we've just stocked up on chocolate malted milk instead :)

When I was in Asda last week there was a sign above the biscuits saying they don't have there full range of biscuits as there was a fire at the biscuit factory :)

Haha, I posted this 5 years ago! Wasn't expecting a reply today. As it turned out, the shortage 5 years ago was a fire at a biscuit factory, as reported here -
http://www.scotsman.com/news/biscuits-go-up-in-smoke-1-1311381

The shortage was noticeable but short lived and I have been quite happily buying them for the past 5 years.

However you are right - I noticed that Asda's biscuit shelves were empty the other day, no custard creams or bourbons. Turns out that a water biscuit factory in Carlisle has flooded (the irony). Not sure about bourbons but they do also make custard creams so this might be the explanation -
