Never heard of them. In what way are they supposed to better than soft-modding?
I tend to stick with what I know until I have to change.

I did my first USB loader using a hard drive just after christmas, and thatwas only because I got my son a black Wii, and it won't read DVD-R's

Basically from what he tells me is it's just a cable that you insert into the wii, removing the need for homebrew channel and backup channel. Really the black wii don't read dvd-r, never knew that. I need to look into the USB loader but haven't used the wii for games in months, just went upto 4.2 to have iplayer

Not specifically the black Wii, it's the newer production ones that have a different DVD drive. The ones shipped with sports resort (black or white) are most likely to have the new drive.

I think the first black ones were hit and miss whether you got the new drive, but I have only done two black wii's, and both needed a USB (Or SD)loader.

Learn something new, I've PM'd you with details of that drive key.

That just looks like a solderless chip.
I believe it requires the Wii to be opened, and the chip clipped onto the motherboard.

Why do you want to add one though? As I understand it, chips don't need updating, but it's not like you need to update every week in any case if it's soft-modded.

I have never looked into i-player or the internet on the Wii as I have them on my PS3.
I may have a look, but I don't get much time these days.

If anyone wants tips, I will say again, look on the gba.temp website.

They have all the information you require on there.

It won't brick it, but it may overwrite the homebrew channel(If you still have it as a channel), and your loader.
You can get a "safe" 4.2 updater, but you still need to re-do the soft mod.
#21
Ah right, i have it chipped anyway so not bothered about losing the homebrew, will it brick it if its chipped ?

Repped BTW
#22
you can use nus downloader to install wii shop channel without updating the firmware.

My mate said he kept getting errors on newer games which he hasn't got since doing the chip. I ain't downloaded a game in ages so can't comment. But for £25 I may have a punt

dunno whats in it

the cheap mods will get bricked but the more expensive well known ones shouldn't, if you really want those channels, just use nus downloader and install wii shop channel using that program.
