Wanting to book a cheap flight with Ryanair (cue the usual boo-hiss, etc etc), but we've only got normal Credit/Debit cards which would cost £20 extra on top of our otherwise all-inclusive 4p fares!

Is there anywhere that I can get hold of an Electron card quickly and easily - don't mind paying a couple of quid for it if it's a prepay one or something.

Or does anyone know if Ryanair will accept payment from someone else's card? Or does it have to be in my name?

Thanks for any advice anyone can give!

Thanks! Off to look on their website to see if I can pick it up from a branch or if it's something I need to wait for in the post.

I got one last weekend from Thomas Cook - they give it over the counter. If you charge it with Pounds you get charged a 2.5% commission, but this is well worth it to save the fees. I was only booking a one way flight back to the UK which was in Euros and they don't charge commission on currency cards. If you go for it you can fill the application form in in the branch, you just need either your passport or driving licence with you.

Can't find any info on The Post Office website, but Thomas Cook sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. Lol, wonder what the minumum charge up amount is - I only need 4p for the flights, which with 2.5% would still be...4p after rounding!!!

They seem just to be Visa Debit - are they Electron? If so, that would be ideal.

I'm trying to get the number for Travelex as apparently they sell one for £3, but don't know if you've got to order it online or if you can just pick it up. Their number isn't anywhere to be found though!

I've used entropay on ryanair before and just selected visa electron and it has accepted it. I was originally recommended it by someone on here! :)

Thanks - just looked it up on MSE and they're recommending it there too, although nothing for the past month...hopefully they've not cottoned on to it yet. Off to open the Entropay account now, will post back whether it works in case it helps anyone else.

I'd definitely be interested to hear if it still works, looking at flights myself at the moment!

YAY!!!

www.entropay.com

Worked a dream - 4p all in.
Account was opened in seconds - at first it wouldn't work when I tried to open it with my Alliance & Leicester bank account, but tried again with the Halifax and it was fine. Loaded £10 onto the Entropay account, which cost me 50p, balance now £9.96 which presumably I can just use whenever I next buy anything online. No problem at all with Ryanair - just remember to enter 'entropay user' as the cardholder name rather than your own name.

Thanks so much for the tip imafish!

Glad it still works! As far as entering Entropay user as the cardholder name, not sure I had to use that. Either way if your flights are booked its a good end result!

Just think you can keep that £9.96 tucked away for the next couple of hundred flights you need lol

Still really chuffed that I (with your help!) managed to dodge the £20 charge.

Now I just need to find someone who does car hire for 4p. And hotels. And airport parking.

D'oh!
