Where can I spend New Year's eve in Central London?

I have got some friends coming from abroad and they want us to go to celebrate New Year's eve in Central London so we can see the fireworks and the city during the night.

I am looking for something like a restaurant, pub, club, etc with nice music disco style but a very important thing is that it should allow kids so they can run around, dance, etc.

I want central London so we can go out after midnight and see the fireworks around the London eye and Big Ben.

I am planning to drive and probably parking around Picadilly circus or Oxford Street but if the place got a car park well even better but that might be pushing it too much.

Any ideas on where and how much this would cost per person, hopefully kids go free or at a reduced price. I am sure someone in here will have some good ideas. (can you please provide name, link if any, postcode and or telephone)

Thanks in advance for your help

Get yourself onto Westminster Bridge, but make sure you are early otherwise you wont be able to get on. And hopefully they have sorted out the toilets as last year was an utter shambles. The toilets were located off the bridge and you had to go past the barriers to access the toilets and then security refused you to go back on the bridge as it was full. There were people who had gone toilet and left their family on the bridge and the police wouldnt let them go back on the bridge. absolute shambles it was

A lot of people head towards Trafalgar Square as that is historically where a lot of the celebrations happen underneath Big Ben etc. Although as I am sure you know in recent years the Police have cut down on this due to sillyness of the minority pickpockets and so on.....

There is a river cruise that lets you see everything plus a meal and so on but is is extremly expensive!!
http://www.citycruises.com/newyear.htm Have a look here....
Leicester Sq is mostly full of Bars and Clubs, which whiltst good if that is what you are looking for - is not necessarily the best choice if you have little ones in tow..... Even if you don't there is such a vast number of venues to choose from, short of diving into the biggest the Empire, you could be left a bit disaapointed as they all tend to cater for different tastes and so on.

There are plenty of Restaurants around this area too though - but again Garfunkles or you have to look into it a bit deeper...

There is another website that may be of use if the Restaurant avenue is what you want to go down, and that is:-
http://www.squaremeal.co.uk/

They have a great deal of news and views and offers and so on there...

Again, it is difficult to name places specifically, as what suits one, wont necessarily suit another.

Hotel wise - you should be looking to secure something sooner rather than later - this in one of THE nights that they rarely do discounted rates on in London due to the fact that there are so many 'walk ins' and to be fair most of the decent ones are all pre booked anyway.

If you want a car park - again you are bumping up the cost.... Don't get me wrong - there are PLENTY that have this facility - it just isn't always the cheapest thats all.

Have a look on www.expedia.co.uk as well.....

Here is another link for 'family' things to do - there is plenty of choice and what not - remember that the tubes and busses run all night so getting around shouldn't be too hard (relatively speaking) and try to pick out where exactly you want to be then home on in it from there.....

I live and work up there so its fairly easy for me to know about these things and what hotel HAVEN'T I had to gate crash in some drunken stuper before!

ENJOY!

If you need anything else let me know, but I am sure you will get lots of other excellent replies to your question.

Puuurrrrrrrrrr.

Thanks a lot for all the info.

What about trains any idea whether they run all night as well? by the sound of things driving is not such a good idea. I could take the train Windsor - Waterloo but no idea whether they would have trains after midnight.

Again, the thing about the transport is.... Well lool at Transport For London Website I think off hand it is www.tfl.gov.uk erm, they may have something up there about it - or the equivalent for National Rail.....
But, remember it will be a fairly late night.......
Perhaps park the car outside the centre by a tube and get a tube in....

That way you know you will be able to drive back home if you really dont want to book a night in one of the Novotels or cheapish Hotels?;-)
