travelex online is usually the very best rate. You can order it online and as long as there is at least 24 hours notice you can choose an airport to pick up the euros from.
You have to do it online though, they do not offer such a good rate over the counter.

I found Tesco to be the cheapest in my area.

first choice were offering 1.23eu today which is the best I have seen in a few months. Post office were only offering 1.17.

I got 1.21 from m&s last week which was good at the time.

Only thing to watch if ordering them to be delivered to the house is the delivery/ insurance cost sometimes out weighs getting the better rate.

Hope this helps Happy Holidays

yeah that's what my gf said to do but i think of how much postage is a rip off so i cant believe i get the best deal at the PO for currency

Travelex online is definately the best rate for euros, I double check everytime but no where else has ever had a better rate whenever Ive looked

I don't normally change much before I go - you get a much better rate taking out through cash machines whilst abroad - and if you use a Nationwide Debit card - there are no fees

Mstiny,

I always get mine from the cheque centre in town next to Central Station. You will not be able to beat their exchange rate. Theirs is always alot more than the post office, travelex, M&S etc.

best advice although Abbey National have a new card out called zero which is meant to be slightly better.

Never get it exchanged over here as its rip off britain once again. Much better rate in destination country.

Last year i got some money changed before i went, but i discovered it was a lot better to just get the money out of a cash machine while over there, as long as your bank doesn't charge you any fees!

Do this as well, not necessarily for the exchange rate but feel safer knowing I can't be mugged of cash.

What Tintern said.

I never get money exchanged before I leave now. Get a Nationwide account and get your cash from a cash point. The exchange rate you get with Nationwide is consistenly better than Travelex, post office, etc, and there are absolutely no fees. Just like taking from a cash point over here.

Went to Egypt last year. Got £100 from the post office before I left which gave me about 870 Egyptian pounds. Got another £100 out of a cash point at my hotel, and came away with about 950 EGP!

Currency over here is a rip-off!

Is there anywhere apart from cash machines that you can change Pounds into Euros when abroad, I'm going to Spain on Monday and found the exhange rate in England rubbish. I don't have a nationwide account so can't do that.

"bureau de change" is what you want to look out for, usually in busy shopping centres.

I've never seen a cash machine that turns pounds into euros!

try a bank or any high st abroad where a lot of shops also exchange cash. much better rates than over here.
