  Maths lesson: 40 is 80% of 50. To calculate this, divide 40 by 50, which gives you 0.8. Where 1 represents the whole, 0.8 is the same as 80%. Opposite way around, divide 50 by 40, and you get 1.25, which means that 50 is 125% the value of 40.

  to work out 100% of something, times by 1.
  to work out 90% of something, times by 0.90
  to work out 54% of something, times by 0.54
