Where's the love? :-(

I really can't be bothered. :-( I'm in two minds whether to leave it at that and click "submit" or whether to carry on.

You all know that talking about waxing one's private parts, etc is going to offend people who read the thread. Remember... there's more people reading your posts than there are replying to them... you should be leaving a good impression.

Then when people try and let us know about these things and us mods try and sort them out you're jumping at our throats, getting really impatient and uncooperative...

Moderators. We're all really busy people. Moderators have lives too. Full time jobs to keep going, families, etc. We aren't about to go into our private lives and moan about it... but we're here primarily to help find deals and give guidance to new users, not to tell the old ones to grow up and stop being disgusting.

Don't complain when threads are removed. The forum is a bit of a mess at the moment with all of these pretty much unnecessary threads to the point where technical help requests are getting missed (we're working on a solution there too...).

We don't really have time to argue. This has all got me pretty upset and tired. I really can't be bothered fighting, but I can tell you what will happen if things carry on like this - long-standing users will leave. I've already had one mention it. And if they do, I won't be too happy with the people who've forced them out.

Please keep this an enjoyable thing for us all to do. We put our hearts and souls into this site and wouldn't want to have to close it because it's simply far too tiring and troublesome for us to carry on.

We love you all. Us mods are nice, simple, peaceful folk.
Give us a little respect, and we'll work you wonders.

Spread the love, share the bargains. :)

Spread the love......The Duck.

Surely love involves TOLERANCE & forgiveness!?!?!
#4
Yup, but I shouldn't have to forgive you in the first place if things are going well. :)

I've just realised... I've only removed those other threads... I haven't deleted them. Post counts could take quite a bashing.

Hang on a second....

There is plenty of love out and about, and the majority if not all of us do appreciate the hard work that the mods put into the boards, if the site wasnt popular then people wouldnt use it.

I suspect that some who have over stepped the mark perhaps need to take a long hard look at what they are posting and perhaps why, and personally I would take on board a warning about content from a mod if it was justified that something was of an adult nature.

I think we are all adult enough to know that there are a few who didnt like the fact that the dating thread had carried on and on, but were just looking for a way to get it pulled, as I said on a reply to another thread its all down to the fact that that a few were actually getting on, and not just worrying about who liked them and thanked them for something, far too much angst about at the moment.

As for forcing members out, thats a tad strong to blame other posters, and if they want to blame me well I am more than happy to have an adult conversation as to why, Its more of a cutting off one`s nose to spite ones face. Or are we getting to the fact that they have check their toys out the pram?

If the work load is getting much too much for the mods , I am sure that a few of us are more than happy to assist, or would that be too much to ask, or even if there was the facility to have thread where a few of us dont take the net/ boards too seriously have one as a mod to self regulate ourselves, and as I am not fond of chat rooms( see the recient press!!!) they can be even harder to police.

Its all down to living harmonious and realsing that we all have a view, and tollerance, the net is not the real world, look outside...thats the real world

This is supposed to be a happy, peaceful site for sharing deals... we don't want things which could even be considered as "adult".

Admin has made it known to us that he doesn't want to put lots of work into policing these "bits on the side" which detract from our main purpose which, if you remember, is sharing deals. It's so much easier for us just to stop you talking to each other but we don't want to do that. We just want you to be responsible.

Sending you a PM too mate.

Is there a forum code of conduct?

I realise there is a disclaimer on signing up. Most people will not read this disclaimer ... you could ask for our kidneys and we would still have signed up.

If I have overstepped the mark then I must apologise. Without guidelines it is difficult to gauge what is and what is not allowed. Perhaps I am the only one but this withdrawal of threads came as a bolt from the blue. There was no cautions or warnings prior to the withdrawal of the thread. I therefore assumed that the rules of this forums were rather laxed.
#11
The forum rules are quite laxed in comparison to most.

I've just realised what may be confusing you all to make you think that you've done no wrong. The problems/adult talk actually occured a couple of days ago... The reason that the threads have been totally removed out of the blue is because of us really. They've been moving so quickly that we haven't been able to moderate them properly and we weren't aware of what was being said there... it was too late to try and remove over-the-line posts as we normally would when we found them as they were dispersed throughout the thread and it was so much easier to remove the threads...

It's there on the front page...no, it's when you click HotUKdeals...no, no, no, it's on the page with all the Misc & random listings...sorry, can someone tell me where this code of conduct is....PLEASE?!?!?!

Why can't I find it???
[admin]#13
Let's not make too big of a deal out of this. As I told the mods I'm happy to have members chatting back and forth and so on in Misc and I don't mind big threads like the dating one that is confining the nonsense bits in there. The only point at which I draw a line is when it gets to the point where it is taking resources to handle that chat. There are loads of sites out there that can satisfy anyone's desires for adult conversation and it's best to take it there or keep it to pm's, it is outside of HUKD's remit to monitor and mod that kind of activity. All I would ask is that member's just self-moderate that kind of activity by sticking to pm's or a chatroom. As soon as something is posted on the public forum then it becomes something that myself and the mods have to keep an eye on.

Code of conduct is basically keep it within a family forum. This site is accessible and used by all ages so anything that isn't suitable for all ages shouldn't be on here. As well of course as fraud/illegal activity. So light innuendo and so forth is generally ok but more explicit sexual references and explicit language should be avoided.

This post may be a little difficult to find in the future. It may be best to have an easily accessible code of conduct.

I'm not posting this just be argumentative, but surely the issue then is where is the line to be drawn as some people are capable of taking offense at the tiniest little remark or even remotely sexual comment.
It's all well & good to suggest self moderation while advocating 'free speech' but what wouldn't offend me may make someone's gran looking for SAGA holiday voucher codes have palpitations????

As usual I shall blame C32, not too sure what I've got blamed for but, it always worked before, so why not now;-) sorry C32.

Exactly. What doesn't offend you could easily offend others. That's why you have to think hard "is this going to offend anyone?". If you can't do that little thinking before hitting "submit" then I suggest you don't hit "submit". End of.
#25
duckmagicuk2 - can I just say, as someone who never even clicked onto the dating thread, that I feel so sorry that you obviously feel so deflated at the minute.
I really don't know what went on as I didn't see any of it, but please remember it was only one or two threads! OK, long threads but what the heck?
I only EVER see or read positives about you so don't be downheartened.
You do a fab job, along with the other moderators and admin x

So the answer isn't self moderation, it's just not posting anything.
The Eddie Murphy Delirious thread went into whether it's right or wrong to make jokes about 'gays' or Aids? Both sides to that arguement could have been offended by the others opinions yet it remains untouched. There are any number of threads that could be classed as offensive to someone & yet are not locked or removed.
(Even fervent nationalists could take offense at some of the comments on the England 5-1 footie DVD)

Just trying to establish some site common sense here CHARLIETHIRTYTWO. That's why I said above don't feel guilty and so forth. I felt the level of conversation in that thread was a too adult in nature so now you all know and can let that guide future flirting and discussion.

As I said, I'm not looking to argue a point that members can't 'win', I'm merely pointing out the glaring double standards evident when 'people' try to use a 'someone might get offended' arguement.

The Duck.

I am totally shocked, I have been out for the last 6 hours or so, had a very enjoyable evening and then find this on my return. I don't know exactly what happened but I am presuming it had something to do with the dating thread

If this was so I would like to say that the 6 or 7 main contributors policed the thread with the knowledge that younger people could & would view. For Pete's sake we had a teenager contributing to the banter and on occasions I would edit words or delete posts where I thought the mark was over stepped. I also sent some PM's to other people about things that should be adjusted.

It was very hard to carry on the 2nd part as the flow had been lost from the first series and I think this might have caused a few problems but I am damned if I am going to start all over again.

I have built up some very good 'friends' over two threads and will carry on speaking to them in the future, maybe not here, maybe not today but as Ducky said I really can't be bothered.......

As far as I am concerned I never upset any one of the posters (and if I did I apologise) but as far as other people reading it and getting offended, they had the choice of reading it or closing it and moving to another topic - they were not made to read it, they were not invited to read it and they should have kept their nose out if they felt offended. It's like the television, there is always the OFF button there if they don't want to view something.

I will certainly think twice about posting any more comments on HUKD's, and when I find what I think is a bargain I will post it in the proper section. The negative repping button may have gone but it was replaced with something greater. I don't hold any grudges and know admin have a job to do but I would have thought a quite PM would have made a difference.

Actually if I was banned I would understand then that I have done something wrong and at this stage, it would not really bother me. I am disgusted........

A quiet PM would have been too late my friend. I tried to simply colse the threads, start a new one and tell you to keep it clean but instead arguments broke out whilst I was trying to sort it all out.

who were the arguments with and on what grounds? The "people" involved in the dating thread dont have a clue whats happened and each of the "regulars" were not logged on. We are all just assuming that is "our" fault.
