Where's the sense of fun and national pride ?

England are fortunate (and good) enough to make it to the World Cup Finals.

It is a time for celebration, for a bit of fun and a time to bring folk together. If this means having car flags, bunting, t shirts and every other conceivable item drapped in your national flag so be it.

I never knew that HUKDs was so populated by Daily Mail reading drones with stuck up ideologies and airs above their stations. And who feel the need to label everything "chavtastic" and demean anything or anyone who doesn't fit into their social profile. Not all working class people are hooligans!

England is in the World's greatest sporting event (imho) and i really wish that we scots were there to join you.

So bring out your flags and novelty gifts and revel in this most joyous of times. Have a BBQ, invite the neighbours , have parties and show the world why GB is number 1.

Glad i am not alone. I have lived all over the world where it is perfectably acceptable (if not expected) to adorn everything with flags and bunting. Why do we British have to be so stuck up?

And yes, it is a bit sodden for a BBQ. My fault- took a day off work. Here's hoping for a glorious June.

No.... The St George Flag on a satellite Dish and Football Shirt thread I'd imagine.

Any Leeds Players in the final 23 Chesso?

Not really. More the responses to deals like this:

I see.
It's not my style but I like all the party atmosphere stuff that others do.
Like I said last night
It was so good in Euro 96 with all of us singing the song and the sun was shining - and then ...... not quite making it. It would be brilliant for England to win the world cup.

Could not have said it better myself.

I live in Blackpool and the town has had a great atmosphere these last few weeks due to the play off final, still loads of tangerine flags adorning windows and on cars and many are still wearing their tangerine footie shirts and t shirts:)

Starting to see a few England flags also now and I am sure that this will increase the closer we get to the tournament.

If England do actually manage to win the thing I think the town will go into meltdown

Actually, my route to the railway station this morning was particularly St Georgey! (And no, I dont live on a council estate or drive through one!)

:I agree with you OP - but can I ask, does that mean you will have England flags etc at your house?

I honestly know nothing about football and often wonder why there is so much hostility involved - but I also know that sadly you hanging an England flag "oot yir windy" will bring you the odd stone!!

Good OP though:thumbsup:

And that guv is my point. What difference should it make if you did live on a council estate and wanted to hang a flag during the World Cup? Too many snobs (or Walter Mittys) on this site at times.

Some people should remove the sticks from their derrieres and accept that just because they don't like something doesn't mean that it is worthless or merits derision

Er... might not be a good idea living in the West of Scotland plus they are not my team. I was in Reading in 98 and the atmosphere was fantastic. I couldn't help myself cheering for England (i was supporting my friends- that's my excuse) when we went out.

Have they announced the final squad yet?

Do you really think the English FA would do things that simple?

I realise... which was why I highlighted it! I suppose it would have been clearer if I'd said "inb4" instead!:p

No, my post is about supporting your team without fear of ridicule, it is about the need to stop all this labelling and for people just to enjoy themselves and realise that a bit of nonsense can be healthy

There are many detractors of patriotism and nationalism, That they are the last refuge of a scoundral and that we should aim to be citizens of the world. But hanging a flag or bunting during a World Cup isn't an act of right wing xenophobia but just a display of support for your football team.

But I agree that too often national pride is hijacked by idiots.

Exactly! When half the team is made up of idiots who if weren't professional footballers would be the usual thugs you try and avoid on a saturday night it is quite difficult to support the team they are in.

 What? So you're basically telling everyone to hang out the flags etc but you won't do it yourself?
#40
Maybe it's that everybody has their own idea of national pride that doesn't fit with yours. I don't think that waving a flag and buying tack makes you patriotic. It seems that you want everyone to be proud of being British, English, etc but not be typically British about it.
