Even though its a big room, i would keep the speakers near where people sit, no point having a speaker 10 feet away from everyone :p

haha, so like wouldnt the front one be too close to the rear one? also i STILL havent purchased an amp. Ive missed out on the yamaha one because i was still considering an onkyo from comet but since that doesnt do hd audio.

Budget of £180 dont mind going used or new.

put the speakers on the sofa directly opposite the tv imo
but keep them well apart.

Leave enough cable to start off with in case you need to move them, when happy cut away.

Fronts should be at TV level left and right, centre should be above or below the Tv Rears should be about 1 foot above ear level, Sub placement does not mater to much as bass is non directional.

Heres mine, excuse the mess of the walls we are still in the process of decorating.

Hmmmm... Something's missing...? (if I wasn't on my mobile I would have photoshopped a massive door in the middle. (this thread has meme potential... Take your door on holiday anyone? Rally car racing?)

I like the centre av thing you built into the wall... Looks cool
#26
If you paste the whole thing it works.... all it needs is some decent speaker upgrades in the future.

Why didn't you put the TV in the centre of the chimney breast? (Numpty, did you miss the ginger baby? ;))
