Following on from a previous thread, I've now decided to do a 3 course meal for the OH (to show how much I care)

Starter of Soup - French Onion or Cream of Tomato
Duck Main Course - TBC
Sweet of Meringue Nests (how can i make this look fab!) - isnt it just a nest, with a squirt of cream, with a few fruits thrown on top?

Anyone give me ideas on how I can make this that extra bit special.

Sainsbury's Gressingham Whole Duck (approx. 2.4kg)
Save 50% was £6.89/kg now £3.44/kg

Smash the meringue nests up a tiny bit and fold them into greek yoghurt or whipped cream with orange segements or raspberries stirred through, it's really nice

Is it a special occasion? or do you just never normally cook?
don't forget a few fresh flowers and candles on the table :)

and if you are roasting your duck put it on a rack so the fat drips off...it's a very fatty bird

and save the fat as well, good for making roast potatoes with!!

You are probably looking to use duck breast tbh, try lidl. i know they do (or did) large frozen duck breast (enough for 2) for a decent price. Make sure you get it skin on as well! everyone loves crispy skin!

Don't do duck, I bought one from Sainsbury's, the house stank, hardly any meat on it, it's not that good, the cat ended up eating it, the rest got thrown in the bin:thumbsup:

If you want duck, order it from the Chinese takeaway;-)

Mmmmmm!! Duck in orange sauce from the chinese! love it! :-D

Duck breasts take your pick from You tube

Last time we cooked whole duck took forever and very smelly and fatty, (unless it was the M & S chinese half portion (part pre-cooked/vacumed packed). . Easier to stick to duck breasts, especially with a delicious sauce.

Suggest getting it, sainsbugs has promotion on whole duck (as mentioned earlier), otherwise I think other supermarkets are about same price if just getting duck breasts.

Why are you using squirty cream? Buy some double and whisk it. Dont over whisk it though. Just make sure it forms stiff peaks.

Do a meringue layer as opposed to nest. Draw circles on your baking sheet and bake the meringue until it cooked throughout. Do 3 each (about 3-4" wide) and stack them with cream and strawberries between each layer and finish it off with strawberries on top.

I've bought re-baked ones?

Extra Special Duck Crown - £5.00 @ Asda
2x Extra Special British Duck fillets 321G - £5.50

Which one Am i best off getting, or does it depend on what i'm making?

Yeah... Twice the price..:giggle:

Whole duck cut in half after being cooked, served with French fries, and orange salad... Easy and great to eat..

mm sounding nice -- have a few days to finalise it so keep any ideas coming

you could opt for duck in pancakes with hoisin sauce ....lettuce cucumber and spring onion...easy to prepare and everything can be done beforehand ..it's a very rich meat so something light is best to go with it...i like the sound of the orange salad
